Are there any of our keen land based kiters up for a spot of Snowkiting??

Tim at Kitesports has posted the details of this years WanaKite event. (www.kiteforum.co.nz/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=2156)

It is due to be held between the 8th and 11th September down at Snow Farm and around the Wanaka area. This is a freeride event, so no competition, just a great chance to add snowkiting to your list of kite-related sports and make use of the awesome snow conditions this year.

If there are enough Christchurch based land kiters wanting to go, I will take a stab at the arrangements.

I would propose driving down on the Thursday night, (7th Sept), staying at a local Wanaka hostel, ($20-$25 per night in a dorm), hiring Snowboard and boots here in CHCH, ($65 - $75 for 3 days hire) and whatever it costs to access Snow Farm, (Tim is a bit vague about the cost, so hopefully around $50 for the 3 days..??). Add in some food, beer and petrol money and I expect it to come out at around $350 for the whole weekend, (dependent on numbers and if you need to hire equipment).

So anyone interested??

If I can get at least another 2 people interested Ill sort out the arrangements.

Post your interest or questions in this thread...

How is it with the fee for the snowfarm? did i have to pay it befor we know about the wind?
If you don't eat your meat, you can't go kiting.
How can you go kiting if you don't eat your meat?!

Best go for a quick boarding lesson at a snowpark then. There's some good package deals on rental and tuition. Will take you a day or two to become comfortable traversing some basic terain and another day or two to transition comfortably(if you're a quick learner)

Snowboarding isn't as forgiving as kiteboarding on water. Edges are more sensitive and much more catchy and you go a helluvalot faster with a lot less power. A good boarder can get well in excess of 80kph with little effort if well powered and that's excluding the force of gravity going downhill...

$20 per person if your riding, we'll only be there if it looks on. If you can ride a mountainboard/kiteboard & fly a kite you can snow kite!
Plenty of flat terrain to get used to the feeling, then move into the natural roll overs, quarter & half pipes, & drop offs that work so well when you want lift!
There is plenty of Backpacker accomodation available in town.
Will be a great weekend so I hope you all can make it.
