Has anyone been kiting at Whangamata in a SE wind - is it any good?. Looking at a map it should be cross-onshore at the ocean beach.

Done it a few times. Can be very gusty as it feeds over and raps around the cliff at the end.

I found the more on shore the better.

cross shore = fantastic loftings every time I've gone out.

Also done it a few times.

Watch out for the wind shadow cast by Clarke (Hauturu) Island - your kite will just die in the sky if you get too close.

Just keep clear of all those surfer dudes ...
