Hey guys what's the story with the various wind beacons around NZ and how do they approximate to certain beaches in certain wind directions?

Like with Wellington the airport beacon is pretty much similiar to Lyall bay in a southerly and Seatoun in a northerly? Or is it different?

I know with Ihumateo Rd it's pretty much similiar to the Auckland airport beacon.

And what's the story with Orewa? Does that meter really overstate the wind?

For Orewa and Shakers i use the Tiri wind meter and just knock off about 4knots and it's about right then.

I find that the Manukau meter reads about what it is at Muriwai.

I suppose it all depends what direction the wind is coming from and whether its a big band of wind or just a small isolated bit of wind.
