Hi Sam,
Sounds like an ok combination, but it depends on what else you plan to buy. A 17m and a 10m does leave quite a gap but they should overlap at maybe 18 knots? Depending on many factors, board size, your weight, experience etc. If you plan to buy another kite in the near future you may want to go 12m and 8m to fit in with your 17. If you don't plan on another kite, the 10m would be the best bet. It'll cover more than the 12m in high winds and should depower nicely.

As for the North Vegas 05 I'm the owner of a 4 kite quiver of 05 Rhinos and I can't say a bad thing about them. The kites are insane, and from what I've heard of the Vegas, it seems equally awesome. The kites are built tough, withstand lengthy abuse and depower very well. The Vegas is aimed more to the learner than the expert and hence should suit you well.

The 06 North kites with cambattens depower even more and are awesome in light wind, but they come at a price being a newer kite.

Until then, buy the 10m, and get your moneys worth from it.

Then
In two more years North will have released a hybrid bow kite outperforming every other brands creations... If they decide to.

Cheers

Reuben

The new 'Rebel' kite is now released. There should be info on their website soon. It is a fifth line bridle full depower kite aimed at the bow market.

This is a comment on the new kite from Till Eberle, brand manager for North Kites.
Important: The Rebel is from the Handling real different to the Vegas 06.

The Vegas works good for people, which want to have direct Bar Feed Back, pull in the Kite loop New School oriented riders !

The Rebel works good for all safety oriented people, intermediates and surfers, which want to have a smooth feeling, max depower and a huge wind range

Hey,

thanks Adrian,

Yea i hear what your saying, im not to keen on takin the 17m out in the late teens.......been doing some talking and a slingshot diesel 13m would fit well, untill i sell some of my belongings and get a 9m or 8m or something. Something tells me to avoid the bows, haha, some people will prob be chringing at me saying that, and i understand the benefits that they are achieveing, but i like to see a design, or major design change such as the bow used for a couple of years, plus then there will be some second hand ones for me then...although i will be a graduate at the end of the year if all goes to plan....to much thinking......

anyone tried the diesel, they are aimed at your beginner/intermediate market, id prob say im an intermediate, and ive just made the change from my old guerilla to inflated leading edge kites, so i quite like the idea of getting a kite aimed at the intermediate market...having said that i own a 17m fuel...go figure.haha. i couldnt resist getting it.

Anyone flown the diesels???i hear maybe not the same jumping performance of a fuel, but they can still jump...ne thoughts???

Cheers.

Sam

Hey Sam

Ive got a 7m diesel and a 13m slingshot and i have to say that the 13m is the best kite ive owned so far, the diesel is great and the reverse launch thing on it is handy although when im using it its pretty feral and wants to relaunch itself anyway, The 13 gets me going in anything from 10 to 18 knots although the lower end is assisted by the current at raglan.
I have flown my bro's 10m vegas and it was a beauty, big jumps and easy relaunch, good in the gusts as well, didnt like the little power lock loop on the bar as it would hook me in at the most inopertune times causing the foo foo to pucker a bit

My next kite would be a vegas i think, probably the 10m

18 is about the maximum Im comfortable with, I weigh 70 kg and by the time you add a 5 Knot current into the mix the apparent wind is 23+
