TOPIC: carnage @ orewa on saturday

carnage @ orewa on saturday 6 years ago #9099

fortunately i had bigger fish to fry on saturday or no doubt i would have added to the chaos but it sounds like there was plenty going on.

the butcher's bill so far:

shane murrell's severely munted foot and ankle from kite-looping in the shallows (he's still in north shore hospital).

johnnie's broken finger (unsure of details on this one).

stu meadow's out of control multiple kite-loop face drag up the beach, over the bank, through the trees, almost on to the road (miraculously minor damage only).

at least one other incident of rider meeting solid object (unsure of details).

many other minor incidents.

ye gods, let's be extra careful when its onshore and angry kids!

Add slashed leg due to pillock on a red/white North kite crashing it onto / into me, resulting in me getting dragged thru his lines whiule his kite then started to power up, ripping my board off my feet...

Must have been those snotter gusts eh, I must admit a decent drag thru shallows onto beach after being hit by one earlier on in my session.......

I also managed to nail myself on Saturday (diferent jamie), gashed my leg to the bone and spent 6 hrs in hospital... Must have been something in the air on Aucklands east coast - I was at Takapuna.

through skimming in needlessly shallow surf, water ie 2mm deep at muriwae on saturday - face planted when the surf retreated; onto my shoulder
-luckily hve only fractured my humerous;- but could have avulsced my 'rotator cuff ' muscle from the bone - *ucking up permanently the right arm

- if my wife or employer evert lets me kite again - i'll stay in deeper water.
