Hi Thrasher and other Eastern Kiters.

Interested in coming over and having a kite in Pine Harbour. Need to know a few details.

What winds does it work in?
Is it gusty or relatively steady? (guess that depends on direction)
What tides are best?
What is the bottom Depth? ie stand up for ages or deep. do you need booties?
Where is it? How do you get there? road names? rigging areas?
Anything else we should know?

Sorry about asking a million questions, just want to make sure that if we come over from Ponsonby that its not a flop, because the conditions are wrong. Any help or insight would be wicked.

Cheers

Will

What winds does it work in?

NW - SSW via west. ie 200 - 345 bearing.

Is it gusty or relatively steady?

moderately gusty in prevailing SW wind if 20 knots. Gusty if over 25.

(guess that depends on direction)

Yep NW is much less gusty than SW so long as airmass not unstable.

What tides are best?

High tide

What is the bottom Depth? ie stand up for ages or deep.

Stand up for ages.

do you need booties?

Yep

Where is it?

By Fromosa golf course, just before Beachlands.

How do you get there?

Via Pakuranga - Howick - Whitford - Formosa golf course turn left.

road names?

Don't know them but after turning left at Formosa keep driving straight ahead until you get to t junction at Marina.

Then Turn left and keep driving until you pass a wind/tide display on your right.

Keep driving until you see a small bridge on your left (you walk over that to get to the beach)

Car park is just after that bridge on your left.

rigging areas?

Rig on the beach.

Anything else we should know?

Yep at low tide there is Pine Harbour point just down the road and flat island which is at the beachlands turnoff. That spots works in low to mid tide. Best to come here in the afternoon as W wind takes until midday to properly fill in out this way.

Sorry about asking a million questions, just want to make sure that if we come over from Ponsonby that its not a flop, because the conditions are wrong. Any help or insight would be wicked.
