Has any one used the Naish UDS system yet?

If you have, I would like to know what it is like.
I hear once you have had some time with it, you won't look back.

Feed back would be great...

have clocked up a few hours so far with the uds (udo??) it's all good so far besides a couple of minor knobs not glued proberly on bits of hose....and definately need to sit and nut it out first (well i did) to make sure you have the steel pins connected in the right holes etc.....

the singular best bit though has to be when you can completely un hook and so your flying off the front lines only competely is say completely sheetin out, a little wierd to start with b/c feels like your bar is somewhere in space but as i discovered flying over-powered on x3 14 and then getting da big gusta and before being ripped off my edge i get to un hook and the kite loves it flying up wind and taking moi up wind with it....crankin up wind!!! (while other folks on 12's are getting lifted off the water) so that part i like here in gusty inner harbour conditions (mt maunganui)...

when your un hooked your flying off your safety line so that be the reason to make sure you suss things out before take off with those pins in place correctly.....

then there is the advantage of no more twisted lines with the pivots in the main lines and the rotating spreader bar set up. still need to give it a nudge so the line spins around on the spreader but with the hose (line incased hose) being ridged its easy enough to do.....

other than that.....you really need to make sure your kite is tuned jussss fine.......b/c the new "muttie" chickend loop is phat (as in wide and longer lasting) but also much shorter than previous naish set ups so hence, not as much room to be hauling in on the depower with the bar, which is a good thang.......so tune the kite fine with back lines just a little bit slacker than front while your bar is at the top of the chicken loop ......and get looping

Shot for the info..

Sounds like the benefits are all good.
I am still trying to work out how you would depower a kite 200%.
100 % has a better sound to it..

If your kite is above your head and you had no back lines, your kite will be as depowerd as you will get it. How does the UDS improve on your depower??

The only other reason I can think of is if your kite is in the power zone and you unhooked the c-loop, you could then depower while ridding. (Greater than the normal systems)

The main reason for me purchasing the UDS is for the safety and spinning safety system. The rest is a bonus if it works well.
(I know I can make a simple system at a cheaper price, however I am still interested in the system).

 :?

I agree with X3. I tried it last weekend for the first time.
The build quality is poor-the ball fell off the leash release first time-I hear this is almost universal. I resume Naish will have to issue a retrofit for this problem.
Otherwise it was gusting 6-20 knots (yuck)at Point-Crappy-Chev so I got to try a variety of wind on my 16m Aero.
For a backline flyer you still need to pull in hard to power up but I dont mind this as it is really no different from a regular chicken line for my kites. You cant ride depowerd on the stopper though with no arm pull with the UDS so you have to change your style. In the lulls you unhook and get really quick turns for sining, a little more wind and hook in for a nice powered 2line type cruise, even more wind and depower for the most amazing high speed runs under full control. I was on my lightwind 140x40 and previously would get pulled off the edge of this board in 15 knots or more (70kg), but with the UDS I could hold it in the big gusts. You can boost some serious floaty air because you can hold a big kite in strong winds and sail fast (did I mention that it is faaast?).
I'd really recommend it for a more modern frontline flyer I suspect. If and when I upgrade my kit I'll let you know!!
BTW it needs a shorter bar than you suspect and wont fit bars with narrow holes.

hey madness

if your kite is above your head and you had no back lines you wouldnt be able to turn your kite.....but i reckon you know this much......

to elaborate......the aspect/pull on your kite is significantly different when your in power zone right. so when the wind is hitting the sweetspot of the kite in the PZone then the trailing edge is becoming taught and not spilling all the air out b/c the aspect of the kite has now changed that is is under pressure/power. therefore the UDS now comes into play....unhook when your in the PZone (not da neutral) and now you have improved (perhaps 200%....) on your de power of the kite.......

Thanks for your comments.

I have just received the UDS tonight.. woohoo.
Strapped it up to the door !!

Seems like a good system although there seems to be a kink in the swivel were the welding is. If I spin it, there seems to be a section were it sticks. I am sure Naish will change it if there is a problem.

Before I say to much I need to test it out on the water..
Will let you know how it goes.

Laters.
