 After hearing this story i thought it would be best to share it with everyone in the kiting community. I was told by someone who witnessed an act of upmost stupidity at Pt Chev over the weekend. Someone launching the kite upwind of themselves in strong gusty conditions within 2 meters of the rock wall. The kite launched and dragged the guy head first into the wall. Lucky for him he was wearing a helmet. The kite was power looping and went over the trees by the sounds of it.... After racing to the guys aid fearing the worst... he was then told by the guy who hit the wall that he was going to ring the council and complain and try and get the wall moved!!!! Hopefully the guy has learnt his lesson and realises that it was not the walls fault but his on sheer stupidity.... My advice would be to go get some lessons. And make sure you have plenty of room directly downwind of you when ya launch. Speak to safety guy for some top tips. Anyway the weather is looking bloody good for kiting the rest of the week. Later.

Between you and me, I had a word with 'Safety Guy' and he told me that he had long thought that rock wall was an absolute LIABILITY and that apart from removing it - that the council was LONG overdue with regards to aerial spraying the area with pesticide to remove the dangerous trees protruding from the ground above 50cm.

Safety guys cousin 'Common Sense Guy' told me 95% of serious kiteboarding incidents occur on land (even if they started on the water..) and involve a solid object protruding from the ground in some way (rocks walls dogs humans, reefs, boats, other kiters, vehicles, buildings, barriers) so why not just stay well away 100m+...?
