TOPIC: Sick waves in South Taranaki

Sick waves in South Taranaki 6 years, 1 month ago #8423

i've just returned from a weekend of wave combat waitara (4 foot), kina rd (8 foot ) and a sterling waitotara (6 foot) yesterday. sean and adie are still in position at the waitotara campsite probably scoring again even as we speak.

for the uninitiated, waitotara is a little known right hand pointbreak occasionally windsurfed but rarely kited. it is famous amongst surfers for the longest right hand wave rides in this country and works with the classic westerly swell and westerly or NW wind combo. i have previously windsurfed it twice but for all of us it was our first chance to savour its pleasures with kite power.

our whirlwind roadie took its toll on our kit with the hippy completely and utterly destroying a kite and board and myself getting away with just one munted kite and a severe fuel bill.
