Hi Guys, Im seriously comtemplating making the switch from windsurfing to kitesurfing(getting pissed of carting all that crap around) and am wanting to know where would be a good place to get lessons from. I dont have any gear and basicaly want to give it a shot before I go out and spend money on any . I have searched the forum and Kiteworks seems to pop up a bit along with Anabatic. I live in Pukekohe but I couldnt see a problem with driving to Orewa or somewhere like that for lessons ( where do the guys at kiteworks normally teach and what are there prices like?) I spoke to Lee at anabatic last week and he has the deals where you get "free tuition" but only if you buy some gear. (no good if you find your f*&kn crap at it or its jst not your thing.) seemed like a very helpfull friendly guy tho. I wana make sure I do it properly as these things are pretty dangerous and I dont want to put myself or more importantly the public at risk. (definately not gona do the teach yourself trick with kites like i did with windsurfing.) Any help would be awsome......Cheers.

Hi Animal,

Lee here from Anabatic Kiteboarding.

You will love Kiteboarding and this is a great time of year to get into it.
All the crowds have left the beach and it's windy!

Yes your right we provide FREE lessons with all kite gear purchased.
Some of our deals have unlimited FREE lessons for the whole year.

We also provide intro lessons (4 hr sessions) with all gear provided.
And block lessons of 3 sessions, with all equipment provided.

This suits those riders who want to try it first before jumping in on our other deals.

So we have a good range of options available and you can choose to either buy the gear and charge into it, or just have a few sessions to see how addictive and exciting this sport is before making the investment in the equipment.

If you need more info,

Give me a call at the shop on 09-4262444.

Cheers, Lee.

Don't make the mistake of basing your decision to stick with kiting on one or two lessons!.... remember how long it took you to pick up windsurfing! kiting is so so much easier ... but just because you get trashed the first of second time out .. doesnt mean you will struggle to pick it up!

Hi again, Thanks for the reply Lee and CT.
I went out last weekend for a windsurf and had a real crapy day one minute totaly overpowered on a 6mtr sail ,then 20 min later ended up swimming back to shore dragging my board and rig 100mtrs when the wind dropped.
That just about seals the deal on the kitesurfing changeover
I have heard from various people that kiting is easier to learn than windsurfing and in theory I should be able to pick it up relatively fast (Ive only been windsurfing just over 18 months and am already begining to wave sail) and I have also done a "little" wake boarding but i do mean a little. None of that means that im gona be a wizz by any means, but i think the odds are on my side. Im 99% sure once I try it ill be hooked and my windsurf gear ( Bar the high wind stuff) will be going to another home.

Hi

As well as Lee, there's a few other reputable guys around that give lessons. One from down your way (I'm pretty sure) is Andrew who gives lessons and teaches on his gear I believe. You could give him a call 0272005252. There's also Kent from Kiteworks in town who has a good rep too, just to give you some other options that may be closer. Good luck.
