Hi

I'm just new to kitesurfing, well... in all honesty I havent even started yet.
I am an apprentice so I will probably be getting second hand gear off trademe and having few/ no lessons and pretty much trying to learn off dvds.
I live in Rotorua and as a result most of my kiting will be on the lake here.

What size kite should I be looking for to learn with and a general kie thereafter (I will only be in the position to have one kite for some time).
Will the kite's that a person would use on Rotorua be larger than those people are using to learn on at the sea?

Thanks

Bruce

Buy a 12m from 2004 or later.

Don't skip the lessons cos that would be not far off like teaching yourself to skydive. Have a word with Peter B if he is around - he lives and rides at Rotovegas.

"Will the kite's that a person would use on Rotorua be larger than those people are using to learn on at the sea?"

It all depends on the amount of wind not where you ride - it is important to learn about this and about being able to choose the right spot to ride without dangerous/unpleasant gusty winds or surroundings ( lakes are notorious for gusty winds and difficult launching areas) - from you lessons. A kite with plenty of depower will help. Assault at the Mount closest place I guess....

Then rip it up...

Give me a call at the shop 09-4262444, we started out in Rotorua then moved the shop to Orewa.
There are a good bunch of kiters in town. And some great places around the lake to kite.

Cheers Lee

HI Bitman,

peter b here in vegas, call me if you want 2 hookup 4 the lowdown on sailing the lake. But you had better be quick cause the water is turning to it,s winter side and it gets f!%* cold.

Ohau channel- smooth wind 2-3 knot varience, water shallow 4 800 meters.- will only handel a sw,w due to the marginal nature of the launch .

hannahs bay, sw doable but gusty on the inside-better @ ohau

nice in a nw but not to frequent.

some good ne thermals this summer @ hannahs 15-18kt

best place to sail in vegas- Raglan ! 1 hour 45min away.

n,ne,e,sw- head over 2 papamoa,makatu,pukehina it's all good !

wear a saftey at hannahs as so close to airport !

There was 1 other kiter in in town and a couple of guys looking at learning
but they seem to have bailed !

probably averaged 2-3 sessions a week on the lake this summer then Raggas for the weekend delux sesh.

0212618832 if u want a hand.

ps u should think about a lesson over at the mount, some launchs here
have 0 tolerance and some Evil gusts come through - no what 2 look for !
