Remember folks its less than a month to the most prestigious kiteboarding event of the year not the nationals but the Second Annual Kiteforum.co.nz April Fool's Fancy Dress Beach Party or S.A.K.A.F.F.D.B.P (also the longest contest name in the sport's history).

You are all welcome to come and enjoy some free hospitality at the beach, including drinks and BBQ. We have a swag of unbelievable prizes to give away to the best-dressed party people.

There are no rules whatsoever, but secret judges will be monitoring participants for their involvement whether it be; having fun, having fun with others, providing fun for others, making fun of others, providing others to have fun with etc.

MOST CONVINCING CHARACTER

LAMEST HOME-MADE COSTUME (You'll have to beat the Hippy for this one)

This is a chance to show up at the beach in disguise, possibly as your favourite forum persona and make a complete buffoon of yourself while socialising with all the tweakers that have crossed lines with you over the last year.

The contest will begin at 12.00 noon on Saturday 1 April at a location to be advised on Friday 31 March. More than likely it will be held at Shakers, Orewa or Muriwai, depending on the latest forecast.

If the weather on Saturday is shite, the contest will take place on the following day. If there is no wind but its still a nice day the fancy dress beach party will go ahead regardless.

We are pleased to announce the major prize for the event is a brand spanking Naish surfboard. This will be awarded to the BEST dressed person overall.

The board is a Custom Polyester 6'6" Hybrid and is ideal for light-wind kiting and small wave riding / beginners / larger riders etc.

Also, weather for Saturday is looking alright for a beach party @ Orewa. Buoyweather predicts light Northerly from midday then a 10-13knot NE by 6pm.

So, not ideal for kiting but you never know. Perfect for a party though and if everyone can bring their boats at least we'll have an afternoon of wakeboarding hopefully in smallish waves.

if anyone has a problem with this provisional plan (to be confirmed tomorrow), let me know.

Kiteworks have also come to the party with three videos as prizes.

There will be more surprises on the day and hopefully Slingshot g-strings for the girls.

This is to confirm the party is on Saturday @ Orewa from midday. Bring your kiting gear, wakeboarding gear and a sense of humor. Whilst you may be able to bludge free food and piss off me by just showing up, remember there will be no prizes for those not in fancy dress.

Even i enjoyed it. But that wind was a dissapointment. The scary thing was that Shann's fancy dress party can draw twice as many kiters as a world class rider from overseas. There was absolutely no room at Orewa at all to kite. There were kites EVERYWHERE.

I know you like to be Controversial (Talk radio DJ style) but a lot of the kiters were out because there hasn't been any decent w/e wind since daylight savings. Myself and quite a few others had completely forgotten about the fancy dress do and only remembered when a cop kited past us.

It was an awesome sight to see that many kiters though.

I could not fault a single thing with the event. The prize giving was done with complete and utter professionalism!!! I found that still being half cut from the night before really helped me get in the swing of things.... Well done Mr Miller for a right cracker of an event! Special thanks must go out to Safety guy for a little mustard in the eye! Well done to all those who put in the effort to get dressed up for the day. I spent countless hours ( at least 10mins) preparing quite possibly the'BEST' outfit of the day.... and well done to Charlotte for walking away with a spanking new surfboard. And a big 'Fark U' to the Hippy for providing the big screen visuals once again. Roll on April fools next year.

For the first images off the press. Keep them coming! A transcript of the prizegiving ceremony would be good too if anyone can remember how it went. I lost most of my faculties after the Hippy poured a chilly-bin of ice water over me just before kick-off.

Had a great time...memorable event...one of the most fun times out kiteboarding, spending the whole afternoon with a dummy in my mouth...HEHEHEHEHE! THANKS SO much for organising everything...will try to make it back next year hoping I can come back over here!

Cheers for all those who made an effort and got into the swing of things!!! You all made it a remarkably memorable afternoon.. (if only I could actually remember a single thing....) I can honestly say that i am stoked with the result. My new wakeskate has already been put through some rigorous testing at Omaha on Sunday...


PS Has anyone seen a priceless kiteforum certificate with my name on it - I have not seen it since I threw it on the ground while hitting brother Shaan in the head with some long fishnet-clad legs....
