Yesterday was totally top class at the Ruakaka river mouth - 20knots - good swell on the outside and butter smooth on the inside.

Today it's 40knots and rain...

Checked the beach at 5pm today, was still blowing 30-40 knots but a awesome cross-shore angle at Ruakaka Beach.

Swell was breaking at the 3 mile reef - thats 5km off-shore - and was 'only' 10-12ft faces on the beach!

A bit too over the top today, tomorrow is looking interesting tho...

four of us scored 8-10ft faces at orewa last night in a dropping NNE with unbelievable atmospherics.

it was a revelation to me that a previously un-noted reef directly under the big tana-pole that guards the south end of the beach about a km out cleans up and produces sick waves. we named it sticks. with almost cross-shore on the small rags you can imagine what we were dealing with last night. nice one hippy, ian and some geeza from tauranga.

Well done guys - sounds like you had a blast!

Wind is due to swing SW by late morning, given low tide and the size of the swell looks like we are in for a cross shore session at Mair Rd up here.
