An amazing speed session by David Trewern at Sandy Point yesterday ... looks like a top speed of over 47 knots and 500 metre averages that smash the existing world record!!

might be time to come out ...
guess who 4T is?

yes, my name is boogie [C3] and i'm a kitesurfer now.

some of the guys with a windsurfing background will know me.
once i heard about the crossbow concept and seen the first pictures back in may i knew this was me. i sold most of my windsurf stuff except for some slalom speed gear and really like the CB12m i've got now. i need to get a 9m for down here in wgtn at some stage though.

i'm still pretty much at the steep part of the learning curve, but i'm really enjoying it. i even built my first kiteboard a few weeks ago. not for myself, but... well, you read about it above.

have fun on the water everyone and enjoy summer

Looks like some strong SW winds are heading Auckland's way so heres hoping that this continues the whole summer... then EB will live to be kited another day and summer will actually be enjoyable.

4T I may bump into you down in Wellie. It's not entirely a kiting trip but i will kite if i see other guys at the beaches. If you see a 17m Yarga (unlikely in Wellingtons winds), a blue 12m hydro or an orange 8m AERO II then that could be me.

Looks like it'll be at the end of Jan i'll b down there. not exactly the windiest time of the year in wgtn but that's probably a good thing to be honest as my smallest kite is an 8m.

CT one of these days we should have a go at the speed strip in the Manukau Harbour... could be fun... never kited it before. Don't worry the beast won't bite.

So what do we need for hookin up some speed... just an old fashioned stop watch/distance styles or do we need a GPS?
eastern beach hates my guts because i did a big crap in my wetsuit whilst out there kiting 6 years ago. That's why i'm the most unpopular kiter in NZ. Beast from da east reprazent mutha f#$$%@ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thrasher... get yourself a small gps like the garmin geko 201 ... make sure it has a track log... so you can download to your computer...
as with David in Sandy Point ... he is not spinning a yarn .. the downloaded track log is pretty convincing evidence of actual speed!
both Boogie and I have been using them for ages with the windsurfers... I spend about 50/50 between windsurfers and kites now.... although my best kite speed on the manukau is around 36 knot.... I am starting to think I will have to get a few board tips from Boogie and make another kite board .. and see if we can bust the 45 knot wall we are hitting on the Manukau with the windsurf boards there at the moment..
I checked out another run out in the middle of the manukau today that will work in a n/n/w to n/e .... but will need a boat to get out to as its about 7 k out from the nearest land.... 1.5 K of dead straight flat water!!!

ps if you get serious about the gps I can put you onto a contact for a new geko 201 for around $240 .... dont get the geko 101 as it has no tracklog
