No kiting in Nelson, sorry.

Try Auckland, there's a guy called Thrasher, just ask him where to go.

I'm now back flagillating on this forum again. Admittedly the weather at the mo has really suited Auckland and northland kiting with NE winds that have been the best for a number of years now out at Eastern. Plus it's been overcast so that's kept everyone else away from the beaches. As for FEAR.. he totally fears overcrowding in Nelson so has decided to to do what the Perth kiters do and jokingly say that there is no kiting to be had. In normal summer conditions Nelson is one of the best spots in NZ if steady 20 knot thermals are what you are after.... and considering where you come from that is probably what you are most used to.
eastern beach hates my guts because i did a big crap in my wetsuit whilst out there kiting 6 years ago. That's why i'm the most unpopular kiter in NZ. Beast from da east reprazent mutha f#$$%@ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nelson hasnt had more than 10knots for the last 2 weeks . too warm in the mornings at the moment to get a seabreze in the afternoon.

nelson had the some of the best kiting i found on my month long kitetrip last month. althought doubtless bay was pretty good too.anyway, try the lagoon east of town at high tide. bad launch but nice flat shallow water, great for practicing new tricks.
but now at home the snow is falling and the wind is howlin. -20 windchill :? time for the snowkiting.
enjoy your summer.

Sounds good,

Looking forward to being back in NZ and this time with kites.

Nelson sounds like 13m would be good (85kg)

has anyone kited in Able Tasman? Thats my goal

Also looking for tips on other south island locations - central otago lakes??/queenstown? /chch (i know of brighton)

As I will only have 1 Kite, (13 or 17) Im thinking the 13 would be the one to bring?

Cheers
Craig

If you have to come to Nelson, I'd suggest your 17M.
You may be overpowered on a few days- if your lucky
Abel Tasman -
Within the park - Torrent Bay,Anchorage and Awaroa are all do able in the right direction. But unless you have a boat, it's alot of effort getting in and out, hopeing for wind.

Marahau would be your fist stop and best chance of wind. There's a couple of local kitesurfers that live/kite there.

16M is mostly used, occasionally 12M.
Launch from the sandy beach/spit, which is the first part of the beach you will see as you enter the wee township.
Give the aqua taxi's the right of way through the marked chanel area. It's major industry/money earner for the area, so you dont want to piss them off.
Best to kitesurf to the right of the boat ramp. Watch out for the tractors
Not a great place for MTBing.

Chears Man.
Will I be likely to see people there over the next two weeks or is it quite quiet?
Thanks
