Where will you be camping? in the dunes or near the lagoon behind? i.e. can we get there by driving up thru the forest and the airforce range? :?:

How do you get to South Head?

I believe that the forest is closed to the plubic now.
There is a couple of windsufers that have the keys to get through the forest and to the lagoon, but that's about it.

If you need to get up by road get the boys at Kiteworks to phone Pat Johnson at Bayswater Windsports and I might be able to sort a set of keys to give to them for you guys. But you better hurry it's almost time for you boys to head up.

you can't get to muriwai beach via the forest road end of story.
the only keys that will help you will belong to a 4 wheel drive

Is that because of the Airforce doing their bombin and stuff there... on that dirt road to the main beach there is sometimes a red flag flying that prohibits you from going into the forested area to the north... obviously it'd be wise to heed the warnings or it might be an explosive session.

I can't see why you can't just cruise up the beach on the 4wd.... best way to do it.... hehe

:o We will be camping in the Dunes at the top of Muriwai.(south head). The lagoon is a way inland from where we will be. The best way to get there is to get onto the beach at the southern end.Drive along the gravel road that runs behind the golf course. Go thru the sand track onto the beach, drive thru the little stream and go 50kms up the beach till you see the big golden sand dunes.Just before you get to the harbour entrance.

Sounds pretty mint.... now all I need is a 4WD.
