The real twist is this morning it is back to 20 knot SE and the swell has picked back up to head high plus - just the conditions we were looking for yesterday...

:twisted: Yes it was a fairly exciting day at the beach. Almost brought a new meaning to the phrase " Been lit up" .... Kiting in hail was a little uncomfortable. The fork lightining cranked it up a notch!! Was hard to believe it was summer really. The most evil blackest clouds i have ever seen thats for sure. The only thing missing was a tornado. Well you cant have everything i guess.

.... and at Muriwai it was a cloudless day yesterday....

no forks at shakers today... just 20-25 knots of southerly... bloody marvellous conditions :twisted:

if i could just ramble on a few words about some recent kiting experiences in auckland of late. due to some timely negative reality inversion, there have been legendary conditions every weekend now for the past three weeks! WTF?

despite an especially torrid all-night debauch on thursday night, due to a chance encounter between nick grant, my long-lost brother, a cast of other degenerates and i rampaging through the red light district and the heritage hotel till 6am, causing me to miss my first day off work for the year due to actual physical incapacitation - friday afternoon was good!

but saturday unleashed some of the finest wave-riding sessions ever at orewa, with over 30 knots of dead sideshore SE and head + high E groundswell. there were windwackers, surfers, surf ski paddlers, men and dogs plus the same old dirty dozen kiters out filling their boots. stand-outs were gavin, hippy, shayne bright (and barbs ripping on her windboard), earl, jared, brad, the geezer from the bus, the best, dvnt boys etc. many of us clocked up over 5 hours on the water with many, many wave rides plus the odd forty foot dangle. images will eventually surface from this scenario, including one shot i got of gavin which is by far the highest boost i've ever photographed.

despite hours of soaking in the waiwera hot pools and suitable medication i woke up stiff as a board on sunday but like a little trooper was pumping up my 13m at shakers by 10am for a sunny southerly sesh.

as if that wasn't enough, the hippy then whisked me over to muriwai, where brad, gavin, the hipster and i indulged in a couple of downwinder wave rape missions, which johnnie obligingly drove us back upwind for. these were great ideas too, almost sideshore west coast grinders in the sun with a nissan patrol doing the hard yards.

i made a few calculations and yesterday was the first time in many years i've scored sessions at both coasts of the north island in the same day - the climax to a full-on 3 day kiting extravaganza. finally the JAFAs have won the prize!
