Oh yeah keep meaning to make that announcement on here but always seems to be something more important to do like go kiting.....

Anyways yes the Raglan freeride is on again.
The dates are 17th and 18th of December.
Tide is high at 10.30am on the Saturday so kiting kicks off from then.

Registration and socialisation will be on friday night probably at the Yot club.

Camping at the northern end of the campground plus I have reserved 3 cabins at this end. Contact me for bookings... these sleep 5 each and have kitchen facilities only. Prefferance is that these go to any south island travellers first.

BBQ sat night then party/DJ to be confirmed.

Basically this is all about having a fun get together weekend of NZ and O.S riders along the lines of the aussie Mambo comp.
no heats no stress no attitude

bordercross/course race sometime over the weekend

Great time to suss out one of the best kite/surf locations anywhere with the back up of numbers and support crew

more details to come....

If its your B-day all the more reason to come and join the festivities!!! I personally will vouch for many birthday treats - or at least a birthday suit kitting session. Contrary to popular belief the world does not revolve around u. Let the goodness of time dictate our pathways.
Hippies are always talking about saving the world but all they do is smoke pot and go kiteboarding.

Hey Shaan / Gav, you gonna promote this thing proper or just leave it as just another topic?

the above was in response to dk query which reminded me that I should make an anouncement. More details will come as I find the time and dream them up. Till then you can treat the above as the official word.
Thanks for bring it back up to the top.
Have fun wakeboarding this weekend Oldfella

Dirty freakin crew has bailed on me so no go. Better be windy for sure, or I'm gonna have to torture some more neighbourhood cats and feed the remains to Eddie

Yeah. Put them in some rubbish bags with some bricks & threw them into the tide at Meola. They didn't struggle for long. Heard the neighbour calling for them last night. They won't be coming home.

Two weeks to go!

Re: Raglan Free Ride??? 6 years, 5 months ago #6930

Hay Gav , have you got a DJ sorted yet ? I know someone who plays , House , Techno , Electro and Breaks ? I could ask if he's keen . If everyones keen to party , jump around and dance to the above style he will play hard ! The sound doesn't appeal to everyone though so if you think rock , pop and more mainstream styles would be better then he's probably not a good idea .

Looks like we are getting N.W. on friday so hopefully there will be some westerlies for the freeride weekend.

Who's got some buoys & anchors we can use for the border cross course? I have one, but i guess we'll need a few more to make a decent course.

Ah Bollocks!

I'm sorry to say this but the prognosis for this weekends weather looks like this; A blocking high to the west and a developing low pressure to the north east......

So it's looking like de ja vu for the Raglan freeride with N.E. winds.

I guess that had to happen 'cos we've had such a good run of west & nor'west weather for the last couple of months - looks like were are going into the tropical low pressure season now.

It is an uncannily similar scenario to last year where our only hope is that the low pressure out off Tasmanias east coast will push the High pressure to the west and so bring on a N.W front....

Last year I kept saying "the N.W is coming" no-one believed me, but on the sunday night when everyone had gone home the N.W came through an hour before sunset..... And there I was having a solo boosting session at suckers on my 9m laughing to myself about the folly of sporting events that rely on weather.

Re: Raglan Free Ride??? 6 years, 5 months ago #6979

Sounds like we better party hard then eh ! do you guys have noise control down there ?

blackfsor.. is onto it! This is a Fun event so wind or no wind fun shall be had.
Having said that, despite Skyriders diar predictions(he just wants the place to himself) the wind according to me, and backed up by the latest high and low tech guru's, is going to swing to the wsw direction on friday and stay that way for the rest of the weekend. Saterday's looking like 10 to 20 knots wsw over the course of the day...crossfingers.

Signup is at the courtyard at the end of Volcom lane at Gag/blow me/Yot club on friday evening and again on saterday morning before 10 or any other time you can track someone down who looks slightly official.

Signup is important... it gets you a Tshirt, some other goodies, puts you in the draw for a free kite, feeds you with an all day do it yourself BBQ, and most importantly give you tempory membership to the Yot club. So if want to join in the fun... signup.

Heh heh, virtual buoys are saying WSW now.

Hopefully that means a seabreeze battle against the high pressure N.E.

The only spoiler to that scenario is the low pressure out east negating the sea-breeze.....

As Gavin wisely interpreted that means that all Auckwakkas & Taurangadangla's would get better conditions if they stayed at home: Leaving the locals to the peacefull persuit of uncrowded waves.

Hey shadowofrage Raglan isn't a part of Auckland so i really doubt that they are too stuck up a bout a bit of noise. Auckland as we all know is where all the rich whingers moan and groan about a bit of engine noise at the speedway.

Heres hopin that it turns SW,W, NW for you guys... should be fun. Unfortunately i'm busy so i can't come.
eastern beach hates my guts because i did a big crap in my wetsuit whilst out there kiting 6 years ago. That's why i'm the most unpopular kiter in NZ. Beast from da east reprazent mutha f#$$%@ers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Y O T actually stands for You Owe Tony, or in reverse: Tony Owns You. that's the word on the street.
