I'm not talkin about the windiest city either... just incase everyone replies with wellington.... but more the beacons and beaches that have wicked wind.

a)most number of days per year with peak of 35 knots or more.
b)highest average windspeed
c)most number of days with 4bft or more for 3 or more hrs during the daylight hours.

I'm sure the answer will be different for each category.

Apparaently Wellington has 170 days per year where the peak wind is 35 knots or more... Dunno if that is taken from the entire Wellington area or just from the airport.

Then again the Auckland area has similiar gale recordings... just incase this thread threatens to turn into an "auckland sux" parade. Gotta admit though the 35 knot days have been few and far between in the big city as of late and i think most of those gale recordings are in the Manukau Heads, by far the windiest part of Auckland.

Lake Aviemore in the Spring / Summer, Every time there is a high it goes into 20 knot or more seabreeze after 2pm mode.

Is that the best you guys can come up with??

I think its Q-Town thats looking good there with a 10.5. You get some ripping winds coming down that lake and you can get there easily.

Yep 10.5 m/s over the course of a year is very high... that's 38km/h (ie 21 knots).

Cape Reinga gets 31 kph approx. Castlepoint gets 33 kph. Dunno bout other big beacons like Man Heads or SW cape but SW cape looks pretty good.

What's the wind been like down south as of late? Up here it hasn't really delivered this time round..... my 8m is gatherin dust yet again after a very dissapointing winter and spring so far. thank god for the 17m yarga which has kept me on the water even through the light 10 knot days.
