Here is a clip of the new bridled tube kite by Bruno Legaignoux.
he is showing the design around the place.
Word is Cabrinha might drop the reacon system and go for this type of system / idea instead. Should be interesting to see their take on it (a tidier version).
This clip features the Bruno Legaignoux - Takoon design.

Great to see there are still lots of different kite design ideas going in all different directions.

Seasmik and Bic released this design in 2000 / 2001.
Interesting to see it resurface now.
I guess the market is more open minded to the adding of bridle lines to kites. Back then you'd get bashed for adding extra lines to a kite.
Remember all the heated forums when the front 2 lines were added.

Great link, let the design debate continue.

I wonder if Goat boy is the colourful Blown Away?

Not fully agree with your shortcut here Lee,
OK this is still around the concept of an inflatable with a flatter arc which everyone would like to achieve, Contra, Machine, etc..., even BFK to talk about some gear you're supposed to know, all tend to a flatter arc for increase in projected area and this is achieved through some extra lines, briddles to keep the shape, but there are a lot of changes in this Legaignoux design, just a few bridles on the leading edge and on the wing tip, which I'm sure will make the presence of (some) bridles acceptable to the customer.
The control system is as well completely different from the Seasmik age, to somehow recreate the feeling of the tube kites everyone is used to ride.
all we do is Portnawake

I didn't say it was a bad idea, i simply highlighted the fact its not a new idea. And it is interesting to see the concept re surfacing.

Takoon have released theirs already, I heard talk that there was one in NZ already. But i might have that wrong. Wait and see on that one.

Also of interest to me from a design perspective is the Flysurfer and Wind Wing designs. Neither is perfect but the directions being explored are interesting.

You can keep wondering Anabatic boy. BLOWN AWAY is not goat boy. As Simon rightly said this design is not new. Heaps of kites had this style ages ago with the bridled tude kite. The Nexus from Flexifoil is another variation on the theme. It will certainly be interesting to see how the new school versions of these kites perform. What will they have that the current crop of kites lack? We will see.

Auntie Earl never trust uncle thrasher.

Getting back to the subject of new kites with ideas taken from old kites. it'll be interesting to see if the bridles start ruining one of the major pluses of sled kites..... simplicity.

I have flown the old Flexifoil Nexus for a number of sessions, which was that style of kite, the pluses were
* great range, and can fly at big angle of attack without stalling
* very quick turning

minuses
* good luck relaunching, the kites can pretzel quickly, and get tied up
* try safetying a bridled kite, inflatable or not, they don't depower that well

* they can stall and fly backwards a bit easier, the more arc like shape, the less tendancy to fly in reverse.

I'm sure they will get around these fundemental problems, but I'll leave it for the new kite buyers to test the water...
Now where's Philth when you want him....????

WSP will have demo crossbow kites and 2006 boards in the shop in circa 2 weeks. There will be a 12m and 9m on display in the shop and available for some demos at the beach.

The first (air) shipment of production Crossbows will arrive in the shop at the end of July/beginning of August. Pre Orders only for this shipment. Stock will be arriving later in August.

Check out the new Cabrinha Website for more info, definitely worth downloading the Crossbow Trailer Video.

If you have any questions or queries you can ask me on the forum or call me at WSP on (09) 486 7739.

Hope this helps,

Jamie
