Cheers

James

If you are going to kite were I took those pictures, you need a 4x4..
Its to dangerous to learn at this spot.. the outgoing current is strong and will suck you out to sea in no time..
If you drop your kite in the water.. you are stuffed.

That looks like the inside of the north head by the sand dunes. This place can definitely get hairy if you don't know the area as many jetskiers and recreational boaties have discovered. Lots of debris after big storms too. Sometime nice big logs with nast pokey bits on them. Nice standing waves right at the mouth but the current is fast enough to make the kawhai swim backwards.

You are right.. its the North Head by the sand dunes.
The other problem you can face is you are riding offshore..
If you have a problem, it will take about 2 to 3 days to walk back to your car. Best ride with some who owes you a lot of favours !!

Ever seshed at Sunset beach side of the port? Might be a safer bet in those conditions. Been there on the odd occasion though never on a windy day. There's a nice beach on the south of the port too though it's a populare fishing spot and I've been told the carniverous fish are quite prolific.

I was told by a devoted fisherman that over Christmas they pulled out 5 sharks from the river mouth!! in one day.

Then again I saw 2 (2 meter sharks) out at Orewa on Sunday.
I must have done about 10 kite loops back to the shore with out my board.. after doing a board off and dropping my board just above them.
The water was way to clear

Thanks Guys

One thing left. Once I am up to your standards what type of winds need to be there for a good kite.

Cheers
