TOPIC: wots up with the baggies

wots up with the baggies 8 years, 8 months ago #504

  • confused
i have been looking at getting into kiting and moving away from the primeval equipemnt that i am currently using but have a small question

wots up with the baggy pants worn over your wetsuits ???

i can understand the wearing of pants when you are in 35+ degree conditions, but seeing yo uguys out in winter with long pants over a full wetsuits seems kinda stupid.........

is this just another fad, like when windsurfers thought it was a good idea to wear their rashvests over top of their wetsuits, or are you simply seeting the new international trends...... maybe the next step from this is going out with your underpants overtop of your trousers....... makes sense that this could be the way forward

your feedback would be appreciated

It's to protect our wetsuits if and when we get dragged.

Pair of pants = $35.00
Wetsuit = $415.00

Buying it all on Mastercard, bloddy pricey.

See ya

Kiteboarders don't quite look like windsurfers - you'd rather see guys out in goofsuits like them? Bit o' shiney black ass lookin' good to you? Specially riding blind maybe? Maybe you come down here in winter, or anytime of year when it's fullsuit and see what difference a pair of windproof pants makes. They gotta be hard-out 1000 denier cordura for WHEN you get your ass dragged on the gravel beach, none of this glorified parker nylon stuff.
Underpants overtop of goofsuit making sense? The way forward? Maybe... some riders just forget the wetty and stick with the undies... better power to weight for those pseudo-slimchance attempts.

Yeah and more chance of keeping the beach crowd free, and ya get to put the sharks off their lunch.... kiting in undies, pretty crazy,,,,, kiting in nothing at all, now that's a shiny ass.

Kitepants kick ass.

I wholehartedly agree with confused, I suggest it's a lame attempt to look cool, that gets viewed buy the general public as stupid.

Fortunately I go kiting in a well known surfing area where the wearing of Pants over your wetty would - naturally enough - get laughed at ...

If your equipment fails when kiting, you're going swimming - so why weigh yourself down with unneccesary baggage

So stay confused & don't become another prat that follows this sad fad.
We don't live in the tropics.
Being into kiteboarding is still unusual & different- so why be a follower, it's great that Marcus Austin has his fashion statement - he's an embassador for the sport - but don't tell me you have to be a flash-clone just because you took up kiting.

Actually the first person I remember seeing in full pants was Lou Waiman. He gave it up pretyy quickly though. Too cool for school I guess. I'm pretty sure people laugh at me more without pants rather than with. Hell I'm so sure of that the first pair I made had stars and tassles!!! Perhaps I'll break them out again for the nats. So I'll continue wearing pants for the next few days until I break out the shorty, whence I'll wear boardies over my harness instead. The long pants have come in handy in the past when haveing to swim (or walk as it was at Ellesmere) as you can use them to tie all your shit together, so there

Who cares if it looks stupid... using an oversized paddling pool to tow someone on a wakeboard and then fling em 10m inot the air may look stupiod to some people.... but do we care???? NO WAY

Are you guys into BDSM or what ??..
Do you like seeing your mates in Rubber??... (well it looks like rubber).
I dont see what is wrong with wearing some thing over your wettie as it does add more colour to a very "rubber suite" dull suite..
Next thing we will all start ridding around with red balls in our mouths.

Besides I have a large package and prefer keeping it under raps !!
Super Man outfit just does not do it for me
A stupid man's report of what a clever man says is never accurate because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.

I don't even wanna think about that sight! The origional reason why I started using kite pants was that my wetsuit started chaffing me real bad due to big holes youknowwhere. Biut now I quite like the kitepants idea. It's quite funny as there was a few threads on the international forum (Toby's one) talkin about kitepants and showponies etc....

i just think of it as another example of the origionality of kiteboarding and i'm all for it. Next we'll see guys kiting in Mickey Mouse costumes.... hey the possibilities with this sport are limitless... And if people think Flash and Lou are geeks for starting off the kitepants trend... then I don't mind being a geek     .
