Su and I are in Ruakaka, ~2hrs north of Auckland for Easter.

Awesome sessions today, warm weather/water and decent W/NW wind. Morning session in front of the house had us do a BIG upwind sail across the shipping chanel to Snake Bank. Clear, shallow and very flat water behind the bank in a large natural lagoon. We were well powered on our 11's.

In the afternoon the wind backed off a little and we decided to check out the sand bar off One Tree Point. Again awesome flatwater spot in W winds. In coming tide made staying upwind a breeze in the chanel, then bust out HUGE jumps in the flat water behind sand bar.

Ruakaka has massive potential as a kiteboarding spot - pretty much there is a beach to handle any wind direction with waves and flat water to suit riders.

We are up here until Monday, wind tomorrow looks W/NW again - maybe we'll see some of the AKL crew make the trek up?

Cheers,

DK

Hi Dave

Most of the crew are down at Raglan at the moment.
I got back last night after having a awesome session down there.

Glad to hear some of the CHC crew are willing to risk the Gusty Auckland wind.. AY.. haha

dave im at warkworth. went kiting in thermals at omaha, madness. no wind then sudden thermal would hit turning kite inside out! got some nice runs in the thermal as they hit, getting the decay board to hold edge now.

got job @ rodney college in wellsford so it looks like a load of kiting for me coming up

Hi David

Just reading your message to Dave.
You said you were riding at Omaha.
Was it not blowing offshore all weekend?

Were you riding in the lagoon area by the bridge?

yes i was in the estuary about 1.5 hr before low tide , even at low tide on an offshore you could be cheeky enough to kite there! few mussels to cut yer feet but not mud like shoal bay or tamaki estuary. at hi tide its like a smooooooth lake and in any wind direction you'd be safe, just have to walk if did a down winder. maybe in a north it might be lumpy. in sw or w , e , ne, nw all good. come up some time.
