Hi there
Im a student from germany studying naval architecture and offshore engineering and I will make an internship at the yacht research unit at the university of auckland (Tamaki Campus) fom march to september 2005.

I will fly to Auckland in the middle of February, buy me a car and drive around to find a nice room with some cool flatmates.
I know it is a little bit of a topic for a kitesurfing forum but maybe some of you guys can help me out with some questions I still have.

- From the aspect of living quality does it make sense looking for a room in Tamaki or is it better living downtown?

- I bring with me 19,5; 14,0 and 10,0 does it make sense buying some thing smaller than 10 or do I cover most of kiteable days with this range?

- What will be the water temperature between March and September?

Thanks for helping me out on this

Hey Uli,
I live pretty 5 minutes away from the tamaki campus so i know the area
pretty well. Kite wise there are a heap of beaches right near tamaki which are wicked for a kitesurf from most directions. In Town you'd be more central to some of the other beaches but if i had the choice i'd stay out east. Central city is bloody expensive if you're in an apartment but there are some cheaper student flats. If your into the whole night clubbing scene and heading to bars, being closer to town is a whole lot cheaper when its time to taxi home. In saying that it's only a 15min drive to tamaki.
There is a free bus service between tamaki and town during uni so you'll have no prob getting between the two.
Larger kites are better during summer but as it heads towards winter you might need a smaller kite, but you can always get one over here.
Temps around 16-25..
Am also doin engineering at Auckland so might see ya round..
