That's Tahunanui, its nice, had a few days there at Easter
harbour boosting, sideways buggying, harwood speed gps'ing, sometime kiteskiing, wave/washing machine kiting, gear breaking, driving about chasing the wind....

Only the start of the Spit.
End of the public road for the Doc/visitor's centre, which is as close as you can get, unless you boat in or grease up to the 4X4 safari's.
There are a few Kiter's that live over that way though :?: :?:

Hey FEAR, Im moving to Nelson at end of November. Is it true that there are moves there to ban kiting at tahunanui? The family down there tell me that its afoot? Any ideas? This would , to say the least, shaft my summer plans up bigtime!

Tahunanui Beach, which is the main kite spot is within the 4km flight path of the Airport. So your not suppose to fly any static line kite above X amount of metre's, which is the same all over NZ. It's never been enforced, and on a good day you'll see 20-30 kiters there during summer, of which a few are local pilots or work for the airport.
So no prob's

WE have a crew heading that way soon too.

Anyone tried Wharariki beach on the West Coast just south of Farewell spit?
Went there once before kiting was around, imagine it's good/wild in anything West?

been there b4 on mountain boards it was onshore (westerly) very gusty with big waves . would be awsome but you would be very keen to go out and catch the big ones out the back because if it turned to shit it would be all over.

Tahuna beach has been ripping lately with some of the crew getting 6 days in a row .today there was nothing though.

That was so last year. ( old sKool )

Yep, you would have to have a great big kidney wiper and balls the size of three to go out the back there.....it gets pretty nasty but its been a while since i've been there too! Might be all right in the flat stuff though if you can find any... :o

Made it to nelson and took these pics of the locals

To my fellow Nelson crew,
Well im in Auckland now, and trying to adapt to the new locations, Tahunas gonna take alot of beating.
Goodluck to all you guys going to the Nationals and show them the Nelson standard. I wont be there unfortunately as my course starts with uncle Koru on 14th. Hands slowly coming right and have started back on the water again though no board throws will be executed or anything to grabby dammit! (including handle passes).
Will be down on occasion,

Kris

I've heard Aucklander's are crap anyway! Broken hand and you'll still show them up! you wont need to baton twirl!

Watch out for a Saffer on a Contra, he's the one who can't ride down wind very fast.
And there's a big 7ft monster on a Contra who will slap you silly if you give him any lip!

Watch out they may try and ban your noisy Subaru too... like everything else?
You've been warned!!'

Whos the Contra Riders?
I only know two riders at the moment with Contras.. Jamie and Greg M
Neither of them are Saffas or 7 ft.

Then again they could be from the "other side" of the bridge .. but they dont count ..

Hey if your livin in half moon bay (bucklands beach?) there are a few of us who know the local spots really well and all within a short drive from halfmoonbay. You won't need to drive to the "other side" to go kiting

A few of us are heading to Pine Harbour at around 5pm. The situation currently is a 15 knot SW wind out this way.

Sorry,
Mrs dragged me off to the bloody circus on the 10th, hope it was good. Speakin of females , Pay attention all you married men as monday is Valentines. Last time I forgot i came home after a long sess. on the water to a reception that was right up there with my grandmas funeral .

Don't bag the pants man! Famous kiters have worn such identical baggys.

Kane, passed his onto Tim P. and lets not forget Vaughen with his purpose mad Talofa baggys with flowers.
Fears just pissed because the mrs stitched me up a pair and didn't make him any. We had orders from people wanting some.

Have sniffed out some spots around Tamaki Estuary. Farm cove and little bucks' have been sailed so far. Good for getting out round the spit, not so good for downing kite if by yourself. Will give eastern beach a go when the tide is full.
See ya's out there

Ah yes the day I like puking the most. I know where I'll be on vomit day... kiting.

Eastern Beach is best from low to 3/4 tides. Not really a high tide spot. If underpowered never kite eastern at high tide.

Little Bucks isn't really a kiting spot. It's very gusty and limited room and in the summer acts as a people magnet... which is great as it keeps em away from spots like farm cove (bramley).

Farm Cove can be a sod when in the channel but the northern facing area is a mint as learning spot and for dropping kites. No currents or deep water there. Channel best when wind opposes tide. Kited on N and SW directions.

Now that the SW winds have made a return we usually head to Pine Harbour but on low tide Pine Harbour ain't that flash if the SW is strong. Flat Island may be on the cards today especially if the SW blows hard.
