What a full on survival session on Sunday evening. Mal out on his Jack Jones so we joined him for a super windy session involving 200m of glass flat water between whats left of the huge swells, with a perfect lanch ramp wave coming sideways at the end of it. All lined up with perfect angles for goofy preference launchers, and the reformed waves were shoulder height and peeling. Saw Chris L launch an astronomical jump. Sad to see a dead seal on the beach though (and now a huge whale..). Some very disturbing rips around though. In the ripzone the rip was so fast it looked like it was sucking right up and over the breaking wave and continuing out. I really don't think trying to swim in would have been much fun (if at all possible) if things went tits up further out or in the wrong area. Prevention is better than curing the incurable.

How do you get there- is this spot at the end of Rimmer Road? Or are you down by the surf club- Maori bay end?

300m north of surf club or anywhere for the next 20 kilometres north. i had a secret flat water squirt there myself last night and was stunned to have the whole beach to myself.
