Hi All

Anyone know of any good spot in Hawke's Bay for kitesurfing? I may well be starting a new job in Wairoa and want to know what the area is like for kitesurfing?

any tips welcome

Cheers

Firstly, buy yourself a SUP! There is some good kiting but lots of warm, sunny, windless days. I'm in Hastings but up the road for you is Mahia, which has an inside and outside beach - great in west to south at Oputama/Mahia and North to East at Mahanga. In summer, often enough sea breeze for a good kite, but needs to be largish!

Cheers for the tips,

Looks like it may be Napier that I will be moving to now. What is the wind like in this area? as a guess how many day a year do you get enough wind for getting out on the water?

Also do you know what the surf is like round Napier and any good websites I can use for finding out wind and wave forecasts?

Cheers for the help

David

Hi David - there are a few good spots when the wind blows - Awatoto is an estuary, good for flat-water blasting/freestyle that works when the wind is from the east. Westshore good from NE -NW, although gusty at times. For wave sailing, Ocean Beach is good from E to South. Pandora Pond ,if you are desparate in a SW wind at high tide is OK.

This is the URL for live wind in Napier, from the port.

there is also a camera at westshore on Firman's Marine site. Otherwise Swellmap, Windguru and Buoyweather - virtual reradings that are a mixed bag.
Cheers

Hey, I'm trying to find someone in the Napier/Hastings area that does kitesurf lessons. Does anyone know of anyone I can contact?

Thanks
