Hey guys! What pants do you use for land based kitting? Jeans do not seem to be the best solution, specially for Orewa in winter (see pic attached)

I was thinking about some GoreTex ones but they are so bloody pricey!!! So what are your suggestions?

Thanks!

goretex... i recall perrin uses snow pants. i use my old morotbike gear which is goretex and has armour or my MX pants come winter. cheaper gore tex , basically rock into cycletreads barry pt road and hunt the racks, 120 bucks or my last pants. usualy 350 elsewhere. but the real specials arent advertised

yeah look for something waterproof go to the out;et stors and mooch around. or wet suit!! walk into the sea when your are finished.... instant clean. better option for summer.

winter i use the waterproof pants and gumboots you stay dry and clean. peel everything off and get in the car.

I just use some old snowboard pants. Seem to do the job ok. I wouldn't use expensive goretex pants. Everything just gets so trashed in the sand. For the feet I have found gumboots the best. Always have dry feet when I've been wearing my Gummies.

+1 for snowboard pants. Get them end of line or factory outlet. I look for the heaviest denier fabric and don't care much for thermal insulation as you get plenty hot mucking about. Basically just a good weatherproof shell. Most have ankle gaiters which helps.

don't get pants that are too heavy and thick. most snow board pants are heal heavy. even in the dead of winter i sweet heaps in my thin gortex style pants. of course the trade off is if you get dragged 60 meters on your arse 40 + knots at the nut buster you tear a whole in your thin pants!....

ok just ahd my first session in "winter" set up. here's soem more thoughts for you.

As stated about breathable water proof light weight is the go. DO NOT cheap out and buy $50 fake waterproof stuff. it'l last 2-3 months then its useless. buy something that is gortex or similar. you should be paying about $200+ for these pants or $100+ in the outlets store.

look for straps on the bottom of the pants to tighten over the gummies. Again gumboots are the shiz !! you can walk off the beach and hose yourself down with gumboot/gortex combo and be toasty druy underneith.

Get pants thats a fairly loose fit then you can layer undernieth them for when its really cold.

Lastly get a similar waterproof light weight jacket. then you will be toasty warm completely dry and comfortable.... of yeah!

most snowbd pants are crap!!!! and a waste of money. the ONLY ones i havent had a problem with is MARMOT and HELLY HANSEN. (bear in mined ive been ski/boarding 20+ yrs and try lots of stuff)
or in other word gear made buy a non snow board company as a general rule. is much better.

or what you should look at is out-door/tramping/yacht based brands

but most kiting is done at the beach with Lot of salt water, i think going to a boat shop would be much better idea. salt is very abrasive so boating gear is made to with-stand this and designed to keep you dry.

snow gear is designed more to keep you warm and to look gangster for a week, then you replaced with the next trendy color!

boat stuff will cost the same too

DOOOMMMMMMMM ex-army stuff should be good too.

the best pants are ones that don't leave any marks
Hmm, to kitesurf or to landboard? That is the question for a kite addicted junkie.
