Some kites have low pressure on the back lines. Some have so little that there's no feedback on the steering and while some like it, it can be a little hard to tell what your kite is up to without looking at it.

Your Naish shockwave and first generation Cabrinha crossbows are not these type of kites though and because of the pulley bars the pressure is compounded. Best is to try a few kites in their optimum windrange.

Now in this video it looks like Tophat is on a pulley-bar which is means he is on a C-kite. The pulley bar was a means to fly a large slow C-kite on a small bar, though you lost the de-power on the chickenloop and only left with the depower strap above the bar.

Something to shoot for though !
home made buggies, OZONE Yakuzza's , Yak Gts, Methods
Making buggies 50% flying 50%

see thats the thing, they make it look easy but you know as well as i do thats thers only so much power in a human wrist, and thoes guys sure as hell aint built like HE-man but there correcting the kite mostly with one wrist..imagine all that power attached to one hand!!
i would guess its also downwind but even so, big C-kites!! one hand must be awsome..

yeah i think its more guru dude than zero bar pressure. if you can ride strapless punching big air, roosting waves unhooked and wear a top hat without loosing it you are indeed very good.

Al are you hitting the naki over christmas? we need to smash the waves together!! hows the water action going?

haha, indeed....

still think the bar looks hellish light tho.

i am indeed gonna whack the naki for crimbo, heading down thursday.. bringing everything...got my old board all nicely painted up and gave it some new rails, might have to rock out with my arc out and break it in on some proper naki surf or maby not!!

hanging out for a session tho, when you out to play??

Top Hat and Felix don't run big kites, 9m max. The wind on Oahu is pretty steady cross-shore and they're on 6'+ surfboards.
They also don't use chicken loops, I'm not sure Taranaki's wind is stable enough for that Top Hat's pulley bar would definitely help with directing the kite while flying it one handed.
It's a nice style to emulate but challenging. Both of them have been kiting since the late 90's and are good surfers from way back.
