Hi Guys,

I'm hoping to get into kiteboarding here in Dunedin. Took one lesson in Auckland around February and really enjoyed it (just body dragging etc). Keen as to get some gear and start learning properly this summer.

Just wondering what size kite I would need for most Dunedin conditions?

Would need to be 2nd hand because I'm on a budget. I'm 93kg and 192cm tall. I'm guessing 5 line 12m kite, 2006 model or later? saw some of this gear on trademe which I think would be suitable, let me know if I'm way off track haha...

Have a harness, wetsuit, booties. Need a board and kite/bar and lines to get going.

Any advice on best ways to learn here in Dunedin(any places to get more lessons, good kitesurfing spots for learning etc) would be greatly appreciated!!!

Cheers, Max

Hi Max
I am a DN kiter but not sure how many other DNrs hang around this forum. I mainly land kite so can't really answer your question as well as others. - If you are in Dunedin the best thing (if you get no joy here) is to head on down the harbour next to Water Cooled sports around low tide when a north easterly is blowing and chat to the kite crew. They are friendly and very helpful.

Ask for Gavin - he will sort you and does lessons. Your thinking around the 12 seems about right and the most recent you can get.

Harwood in a North Easterly is the best place for learners. Check the wind here www.portotago.co.nz/3/2/3.html
