Hi Guys,

Situation is I'm flying into Wellington for the weekend from Oz Friday evening and am trying to justify bringing the gear over for a session in my only spare time on Saturday morning? Of course I know if conditions are epic and I don't bring it I will regret it.

I checked Windguru and it looks like a nice +20kt WNW so is promising weather wise, however I'll be staying in the CBD and relying on public transport or taxis so what do you think would be the best place to head to on the day?

Cheers,
Azza

Hey bro,

How good are you? Wellington is hard core windy as F@#$ with very small launch/landing area's.

Check out the bellow location guides

www.wildwinds.co.nz/location-guide.htm

groups.google.co.nz/group/wellingtonkite...s/web/location-guide

My call would be to make a trip up the coast to waikanae. theres alot more room to launch and land. wind will still be hauling through 30-40 knots.

ps don't believe the forecast you can easily add 10 knots to that most days.
pss pack a small kite.

Yeah I was thinking taxi if there was somewhere close, but as the wind direction deems that there isn't then a rental car hire for $50 for the day looks like it will be the next cheapest option.

Cheers for the location links too they provided a bit more insight. What would Plimmerton or Eastbourne work like in the direction? I can remember windsurfing them many years ago but think it was in more of a WSW-SW at the time.

As for conditions if it is gonna be 30-40kt then the 10m I was planning on bringing might not cut it. I've flown it up to 30kt before qquite happily but pushing it over that in a new location may not be the wisest move

you can catch a train to waikanae. not sure how much.

looks like 8m weather to me.

but hey bring your gear. better to drag the gear around and not use it than miss out because you didn't bring it.

eastbourne might be a go but the wind would have travelled over the hills by then i'd expect it to be gustier than waikanai.

Hey Azza, why taxi when you can limo? Me and my prodigy are up for doing a road trip Saturday morning if you want free transport. Only thing is we don't do the girly Kite surfing stuff. Only buggying and as of last week now landboarding (inspired by the mighty heroic tales from Plummet).
Anyway we live in Wwellington, got nothing to do in the morning and are happy to ferry you around using Kiwi like hospitality as we know how to get to places(know nothing about kitesurfing). More of a case of pick a spot we'll get you there!

And the cost....real cheap as listed

Requirements
Bring back Phar Lap's bones and skeleton(you have both now)
Admit Pavlovas are ours
And regale us with tales of your kitesurfing escapadeswith Great whites, maybe kitelooping over salt water crocs...just make stuff up.

So if you get stuck contact us (just gotta figure out how you can PM us )

Sadly as a kiwi living in oz i am constantly having to ask them to return things they stole from us. Well apart from Russell Crowe, they can keep him.

As for the kiting i got a call yesterday changing the timing of a few thing for the event i'm coming over for so kiting is out. They have a lot to answer for! Cheers for the advice and offer though. Will be back at christmas so will definitely head out then wind permitting.

That sucks for you. Nothing like getting worked up for a Session and having your hopes dashed. And I had cleared out the back of the van and got the duct tape ready all for nothing. mmmmm stranger danger....... Oh well it's back to the Ice Cream Truck then.

Dont think a 10m would of been any good anyway ,this week its been anything from 20-60+ knots have had a few good sessions on the 8 but its really 6-8m weather, currently running at 25-38 wnw (friday night) and has been consistantly up to 10+ knots more than the windfinder forcast, definately not complaining though hope it keeps going for at least a few weeks yet.
