TOPIC: St Heliers Post-work crew - where were you?!

St Heliers Post-work crew - where were you?! 1 year, 8 months ago #25006

Hey - if anyone wants to make use of this fabulous 30knot NW'er ripping into St Heliers this week pm me as I'll be there from around 5pm if it isn't squally.

Was all rigged up and ready to go this evening but found myself on my lonesome and am not quite daft enough to to rip it up alone, especially when it comes to self-launching and landing kites that don't like to be self landed

Let me know!

Pt Chev was the place to be tonight - easy 30 knots av, maybe a bit more. There were 3 kiters out... I used a 7m which was just about right for it I think.
I'll be back there Wednesday after work hopefully so should be at least 1 kiter then...
Cheers,
Carey

sweet. Takes me longer to get to Pt Lethal than St Heliers of an evening. when the clocks go back I may venture back - although my only experience of Pt. Chev/Lethal is of many people not having a clue what they're doing ... and doing it dangerously having firstly watched some rather dangerous launches (and my advice being utterly ignored) and then getting crashed into by someone not paying the blindest bit of notice as to his surroundings and then seeing my wife trying to lauch people and them ignoring her well equipped advice and trying to bowl her over

I take it it takes on a new identity with proper winds?!

Rob had a horrible kitemare at St Heliers yesterday morning, and luckily Nick was there watching by chance to save the day, so I decided to give it a miss. The problem with St Heliers in such horrible gusts is that when things go wrong, there is no room for error, and I don't fancy crossing the road with my kite!

Point Chev has plenty of space and you can get out of the way of the newbies by tacking out a bit. I spent all weekend at Point Chev and at some times was the only one out on a 5m, although some of the gusts were pretty huge!

To be honest, neither are ideal locations, both are gusty, but in these conditions it seems that only the more experienced have been venturing out.

After 11 hours of storm kiting last weekend, my body is too tired for an after work session today, but maybe tomorrow if my back stops aching.

Have fun out there and stay safe, the squalls are pretty epic at the moment.

Heh, was out at Pt Chev yesterday and prob same tonight. Only one out then joined by Dan and one other. Was fun. Agree with Michelle St heliers is best on a low to mid when its extreme gives you room for error. was on 6.5 with short lines and was fine. Give us a yell if heading out

thanks all. Out tonight if I can find a good spot on a WSW. Let me know where you're headed - otherwise I'll default to Pt Lunatic and pray I miss (most of) the traffic

Michelle - I missed all the joy of the weekend wind! Various externalities conspiring against me etc etc
