TOPIC: Are you hibernating in Dunedin too..?

Are you hibernating in Dunedin too..? 1 year, 9 months ago #24689

Hey I know its still snowing and everyone is probably out snowkiting, but are there any kiters in Dunners hanging out for summer like me??

I'm curious with what they've done down at the watercooled launch spot too, has anyone been involved with the council over it? looks like theres still room rig up but I'm paranoid they'll throw in a giant tongue or something to go with the molars!?

yep, i'm ready for summer, tried to go buggying today but it was too light..

buggied last saturday and kitesurfed sunday.. actually not too cold..

got my gear in the car for small afterwork sessions now that there's a little bit of daylight..

the watercooled thing shouldn't be too bad, just the parking might be a bit tight on a windy sunny day.. might be more room without the cars parking in there..

the council seem to be doing whatever they want..

Hi Guys, was in Dunedin about a week ago with all my gear, we stop in there from time to time, definately jonesing for a fix and definately keen for summer! Quite often see guys jamming in the harbour, where are the best spots to launch?

In those summer northeasters, launch on the kitchener st reserve, between the big dumb teeth and watercooled the windsurf shop. You absolutely have to be able to go upwind on your first run. It's a pretty dodgy spot to launch. OK for the locals who know the place, visitors have been for rides in ambulances..

If it's northeast and around 20kts avg on the www.portotago.co.nz meter at Taiaroa you can go to Stepney Ave in Harwood, a 30 min drive. In these conditions the harbour will likely be 30+ kts. Or go to Aramoana, either side of the mole (breakwall)

S to SW is Middle Beach from the park between Marlow Park and Moana Rua Road, or Lake Waihola from the domain near the waterski club. Or Harwood again if you like it windy.

Or call me on 021 514 252

Hey man thats awesome, cheers!

I come in on one of the coastal tankers, there are two of us on that kite and another who weve almost convinced to get into it. Will definately give you a bell when we are in next even if its just to catch up for a coffee and talk kite (if of course you dont mind) always good to hook up with the local crews around the place.

Thanks again.

Laurence.

Yep hanging out for summer but keep at it over winter with buggying. Out last Sunday and the week before. Last winter I averaged once a week which was great. Not keen on cold water! Maybe some snow kiting next week.

Thats good to hear I'm not alone! I'm not so keen on the cold either, the last time I went for a kite I got all geared up, pumped up, then chickened out because I was cold already and went home haha! But it is definately getting warmer ~

Where abouts do you guys go Buggying? I've never seen kites only some blokarts at Long Beach, I presume thats a good spot in a nor/norwester?

The Harbour looked alright this Monday just gone but I was working...

There were 3 buggies and a Blokart at Aromoana on Sunday - buggy riders are increasing in Dunners - although some of our beaches are pretty small. We choose the beach based on wind direction - mostly Aromoana, Long and Warrington tho. Hard to find a good place in westerly winds.
