hey dude. have you flown powerkites before? if not don't fly that 12m unless you have a less first. get the lesson or get a small 2m trainer kite and start learning to fly.

if you just fly that kite without any experience then you are likely to hammer yourself.

Hi Luke,
Welcome to the forum and to kitesurfing
I think I met you a couple of weekends ago on the beach.
Its a bit hard to predict the wind this early in the week, but its currently forecast for a NW so I will be hanging around Kohimara or St Heliers.
I'll twitter where I am and what the conditions are on the day, so feel free to pop over and see what us wind addicts get up to

Hi Luke,

Welcome to the world of kitesurfing. I've been kiting for about 6 months and love it. I don't know any kiters in Auckland so more than happy if you want to tag along too.

Cheers,
Joe

hey luke you did the right thing getting on here and getting involved. Kiting is pretty awesome just remember.... there is a reason that we can do 30' jumps off flat water, kites are really powerful!!

one of the things you will need to know is how the safety system on your kite works and then practice using it at home without a kite.

the type of kite you have has very little of what we call 'depower' ( the ability to spill the wind by moving the control bar away from us.) so you have no brakes on your kite it you think of it like that, once you launch the kite, the accelerator is flat to the floor all the time, no giving up till you land it, or pull your quick release.

some folks died using the older 'c' style of kite and there are a few deaths each year even now. Get some lessons, they are way cheaper than a broken leg or neck, and you will end up being a good kiter way faster too!

we dont want you doing this, BTW Eric was a good kiter with some great skills to get down safely from this height, but it can happen to the best of us.

welcome to the addiction

Dan

Hey Man

I'm pretty new into kiting too, only been into it about six months and loving it, one thing i found is people are really understanding when you are learning and always really helpful if you have any questions, so dont feel too bad about crashing all over the place ul be up and riding (if you arn't already)in no time, and if ur stuck ask. The above is all very good advice so take heed.

Hope its all going well for you and might see you on the beach at some stage.

Cheers!
