Heading off to Maroochydore in a few weeks and wondering what the set up is like at cotton tree point?
Is set up for wave riding / should i take wave board?
Or is it more twin tip user friendly?

Cotton Tree is very good. Works best in the predominant SE and out-going tide. It's generally waist deep and really flat water. Wind is usually not that strong, 10-12m+ conditions. If it is SE the surf will be pretty messy and cross-on but ridable. You could always borrow a mate's surfboard or rent one, the local shop might not be too happy if they discover you kiting on it though

Hope you get some good wind. El Nino seems to be kicking in which is not good for QLD.

I love kiting at Cotton Tree!

No wetsuits, friendly people, works in lots of wind directions.
The NE seabreeze, N-NW (gusty if it's a bit off shore, but good on a surfboard, where a leash to avoid isses too) or ride the inlet round the corner to avoid issues...
S-SW can be gusty too, but I've had days out there (when the locals won't kite it) lots of fun...
Plenty of kitable points everywhere up the coast..take a 12m

Im a kiwi who's been living here for a couple of years now and just luv cotton tree.
Theres a mix of surf or flat water riding so either board will work although in the northerleys it can tend to flatten out.
Water temp is 23deg at the moment and most of this week we have had around 20 -25kt in the afternoon but there also can be nothing as yesterday. 12m kite is probley the best.
If you have a car try caloundra rivermouth which is about 20k'sd south but is a bit better in a SE or try some downwinders either Kawana or north shore.
I instruct out of the shop at cotton tree so pop in and say hi
