hey all you auckland kiters it has occured to me that auckland is one of the most 'banproof' and 'crowdproof' places you could possibly get. there are so many beaches in the greater auckland area and lots of them aren't exactlye great places to sunbathe. i'm glad to hear some guys are finally preachin the 'don't kite at takapuna in mid summer when 10 knots' vibe. the bondi example is a typicial one. on kiteforum.com a thread was posted about it and it's really a similiar situation with every man and his dog plus a few kiters that have picked the wrong spot to kite. i'm glad that no beaches have been banned and obviously summer is gonna be the season where the bans will come. we have so many east coast spots which just go off bigtime when it blows hard from the NE. we all wish it would be ne a bit more i bet.

westerlies: where must a man go in auckland to get a beach with flat water in westerly winds and a spot that gets those strong westerly winds without it being too gusty. shakespsear bay is great in sw or southerly but in westerlies it's gusty. pt chev is gusty too. where do you guys go? yeah i know, i should hit the west coast and get some waves but surely there are some flat water spots in this great city that get great winds from this direction, aucklands most common wind direction at that?
