These guys were seriously lucky!! BOTH been thought by their
FRIENDS!!!!! on HIGH tide and 20-25 knots!!! how stupid can you possibly
get!?!?!?!!?!?!?!

one was lucky enough the kite crashed on someones property and he
stopped about a meter from a concrete wall! this happened after his mate
gave him a launch on the beach and he lost control on a 9m kite!
very similar story with the second one (at least he had a smaller kite) that looped him from the water into the beach!

Don't be surprised if someone will soon die at your beach as you see so
many friends teaching friends in the most ridiculous conditions and the
worst spots to teach!!!!!!!!!!!

HMMMM

that's a big worry. Any one know the guys or at least have a chat to them about getting lessons. there are 4 shops that provide instructors in Auckland, im sure Reuben and Eva would be really worried to hear about the beach being used so recklessly.

I'm worried cos i hate ppl on ozone's making a bad name for the other ozone riders :? But seriously hope no one was hurt badly.

Also having a chat to the riders about safety for Newbs anything over 20 knots is not really that safe, and definatley not at cheltenham at high tide.

The guys teaching your mates....... well you should front up here and apologize for endangering one of the most contested beaches on the east coast.

any way wishing i had a 5 meter today after a 6 hr session at orewa yesterday im to stuffed to kite overpowered again.

Peace out

I managed two sessions yest - 1st maxed on my 6m in the morning (Ian measured a 53knot gust while I was out), and to be honest, it was a rather terrifying experience...
2nd session was on a 4m Switchblade, and oh my what a sweet kite. Perfectly powered on the smallest kite I've ever kited with. Best storm wave riding I've had...we need more weather like that!

Chucky if you were maxed on your 6 and 4 spare a thought for Lou Tapper who rode a 9m crossbow all day at mangawhai... most of us had 7s on and while the estuary looked a whole lot safer than the maelstrom out to sea... it was still pretty wild!

I tried going out on my 7 but it was not fun as it was too depowered to turn well and making some very unnerving flapping noises. I would like to thank my 4.5m for all its years service but unfortunately the leading edge blew up RIP

Haha, it all sounds like an average day in Wellington  That's certainly the conditions Louis is used to...

when you see such dangerous situations and bad "instructions", please confront the people involved. Their failures and mistakes may injure someone seriously and also reflect badly on all of us.

Results will be bans from beaches - especially since the out of control kiters in question apparently ended up in the garden of the furious lady who is trying to have us banned from Cheltenham anyway.

Yeah nice flat spot at Mangawhi, but as Mark says gusty strong conditions are not unusual in Wellington. You need to be a bit over powered doing speed runs so the 9 was really my only option. If I wasn't doing speed runs the 6m Switchblade rocks for sure. The new switchblade and crossbows definitely have a good top end so 9m actually wasn't a problem.

This is a topic that really pisses me off. Im not a big fan of learners but we have to start somewhere just the other day i had to pull a move no one should try as a learner crashed his kite 1m infront of me when i was lit i ended kite looping the oppisit was and ended up landing board first between the lines before launching my self the hell out of there as quick as poss but anyways back to the solution if you see a idiot with a kite and he does something dangerous give him a warrning and if they do it again run up to his kite with a knife cut the lines cut the sail and burst the bladder that was they are out of the way for 3 weeks broke as hell and they will never do it again probleme solved
