I'm a total beginner (taken two kiteboarding lessons in Auckland recently) I've just moved to Wanaka and I'd like to take a few more lessons. Does anyone know of any kiting schools/instructors in Wanaka, that would be best but I could go to Queenstown if there are none here.

In general is Wanaka a good area for learning? I heard that it is quite a bit more difficult in fresh water. Seems like we get some quite steady wind though.

Cheers!

Hi Bruce

Head to Dublin Bay Lake Wanaka, go about 1km past Albert Town Bridge on the road to Hawea and turn left (sign posted) on gravel road to Dublin Bay. Works best in westerly quarter winds, but can be quite gusty.
Is good for learning as is shallow for about 200m out.

Jamie gave me lessons last year, very good one on one tuition. I can't remember his last name, but if kiters are at Dublin Bay at weekends everyone knows him.

Cheers Tony

Hey thanks Tony! I'll ask around next time I see kiters at Dublin Bay. I actually thought it looked like a good spot when I was out there the other day, didn't see any kiters out there then but probably the wind wasn't right.

Cheers!

Hey man, yea that would be cool. I'll see ya down here, actually I think I'll be in Auckland for a week or two in early Dec or early Jan... or maybe both, anyways either way we will have to get out for another kite, maybe this time I can go along in BOTH directions ( ;

Just moved to Queenstown back in October. I wanted to get into kiting as soon as I got here but managed to break my wrist within the first 2 weeks (mountain biking). I'm finally healed up and looking to get into it. Buying some used gear this week and looking for lessons in the Queenstown/Wanaka area as well. Anyone have a number for someone who could help?

Hi , if you end up in Wanaka get in touch with Jamie Rimmer . He has his IKO and is a wicked guy. There is a large crew of friendly kiters around Wanaka, They are always on a mish and kite most of the lakes in the southen region. Try Jamie on 027 443 0274 or 03 4435950.
WOULD RATHER KITE THAN DO A THING ! FULLY ADDICTED , HIGH AS A KITE AND NEVER WANT TO COME DOWN .......
