hey,

I ve been in NZ for more than a year now, mostly kitesurfing in the bay of plenty and on the west coast. I m gonna go to the south island during christmas time for two weeks, road trip pretty much, cruising around.
But let s face it, i want to get the most kitesurfing of it!

I m looking for a few tips, chasing the perfect spot...

I ve heard that the lakes get pretty windy during summer time, any idea of the best spots or the best lakes, should be awsome with the mountains in the backround!

It seems that the East coast gets a constant sea breeze during that time, anywhere on the east coast or is there any special wind effect around some area?

And what about the southland and the catlins, does it still get windy during summer? good swell?

And why not having a session at your home spot

any info is welcome!!

cheers

I did the whole perimeter last year - you can kite nearly every bit of it. Loved Invacargil , Christchurch (the pooh pond), the lakes (a "special" kind of riding - if you look out to the lake and someone is riding average - they are probably shit hot riding anywhere else due to random mega gust handling talent! Also the pooh pond in Christchurch and the estuary in Dunedin goes off once you have got over launch trauma. Sooo may other spots that you won't find anyone else kiting at too. 10ft shore dump on west coast was not quite as inviting at the time - kind of zoo like but with more of a doom look lol. Of course Nelson is sick too loads of out there places to ride around there.

I just read Rodney district has 1000km of coastline - it is only 70km long and 50 km wide..
