Started 14 years ago as part of a west coast kitebuggy meet-friendly comp. The idea was to get as many like minded people together as possible, drive 50km/s to the top of Muriwai beach. Buggy all day in the 5 square km/s+ of amazing sandunes. Set up camp, have a big bonfire away from all the city folk (and noise controll) go crazy all night.... including midnight buggy runs. Then awake in the morning and do it all again. After the explosion of kitesurfing we opened the invite to all Kitesurfers, mountain boarders and anyone who just wanted to get away from it all and sleep under the stars. Kitesurfing at Low tide in the Kaipara harbour is just amazing. You can slash it up in the surf or lace up some serious speed in the flat water lagoon. How to get there? You will need a 4x4 to get there. Access is at the creek entrance, approx 2kms up from the south end surf club. Take the gravel rd behind the golf course. Drive onto the beach and drive 50km/s North to the big open dunes. Set up your tent then get amongst it. So camping is actually out in the open amongst the rolling dunes. You will need to bring warm clothes for the evening as it can chill down alot when the sun goes down. Bring some food to cook on the bonfire, a chilli bin with beer, tent sleeping bag and your all sorted. Check out the pics and other info at kiteworks.co.nz
