a flatwater session in light winds on the harbour, Dan out of Auckland, Andrej on his way through town heading north, Phil on his new kite, and me Craig filming

harbour boosting, sideways buggying, harwood speed gps'ing, sometime kiteskiing, wave/washing machine kiting, gear breaking, driving about chasing the wind....

HHhaha! That was sweet dude.

I used to live in dunedin before i started kiting.

Wicked to see a vid of people riding in the harbour! I would love to come down and ride the north coast point breaks with a kite one day.

Do they ever get windy enough on the points? or is there a bit of a shadow?

where are the point breaks? I'm not a surfer so I don't know.

I think Aramoana is on today, 25kt northerlies! Looks a bit flat though.

Harbour will be unkitable in town today, too much northerly...

There are a few points on the north coast.

Potato point (purakanui) and just down from there a river mouth/right hander called freight trains.

Murderers is a really popular surf spot and might get a northerly in there really good.

If you ever check it and and think its good... let me know and i will totally drive down from chch to ride it, cos those waves are amazing to surf and i love kiting soo much more!!

yep both Potato Pt and Murderers get N, NE and maybe NW.

I've been to Murderers in a NW but like all NW'ers it was very shifty. Murderers is also very very short and has a cliff downwind.

Never tried to kite at Purakanui but I have had a good kite at Long Beach in a super strong NE.

Yeaah true the cliffs would be down wind... i think maybe freight trains would be the one out near the old pa site at purakanui.

man long beach could be sweet. are their any good flat water spots beside the harbour? hoopers inlet on a SE?

I surf in dunedin for years would be rad to go back for a kite mission this summer!

camera: old canon ixus in a waterproof case, the case was $100 of trademe

flatwater? ummm, hoopers is ok on se but se is rare in dn, and rainy and hoopers is very very shallow.

doctors point is ok for flat / waves / current, etc, but can also be very shallow.

harwood is super flat and nice but the wind can be a bit light.

long beach is a bit too onshorey but good when aramoana is scary windy.
