Windsurfed for my last two years at school because I could do it during school time, using school gear. Done a bit of instructing, after about a two year break I thought I might get back into it. So I had a chat with a mate I used to poleboard with and he told me to check out kiteboarding before I went to buy any gear.

Had my first lesson last september. Obviously, I was hooked after flying my first kite. I sat on the side of the estuary(chch) and watched all the boys chargering after Id finished my lesson. I thought to myself then, yep this is something Ill be doiing until Im too old to walk anymore and I still do think that.

Pecae

ps-hope all you lads in chch(and the rest of nz) are having a good one Ill be back from Antarctica in two weeks and Im hanging like a mudda fuck for a kite to say the least.
Airborne.

Where can you do 30ft jumps in Auckland (save once per year at Takas in that rare cross-shore Northerly that actually gets in) on a windsurfer? Poleboarding in the big smoke is generally BORING - the only option is Taranaki, but the 3.5hour drive every Fri nite, + return on Sun nite takes its toll after 5 years. Hey - why not try kiting? There's almost always enough wind to kite in, and boost big, when you wouldn't even bother strapping your poleboard to your roof. Kiting brings back that excitement that poleboarding here has lost - not that I wouldn't poleboard again in an instant if I lived in the naki. Lets face it, poleboarding in the 09 is DEAD.

WINSURFING IS CANCELLED

Re: kiteboarders used to be windsurfers 8 years, 3 months ago #1711

Since I started traction kite flying which evolved into kitesurfing
I haven't windsurfed as much but I'll never stop windsurfing!

The two sports are completely different. I have more respect for a windsurfer who can do a forward loop than a kitesurfer who can do a kite loop.

Now Stop right there! I have great respect for those who can do kite loops amongst things. But just because kitesurfing by nature is an explosive sport doesn't mean windsurfing isn't! It means you haven't got the skills to windsurfing and those that have shouldn't let it go to waste.

We should expect fantastic stuff from the best kitesurfers. If a windsurfer with 10yrs experience can do a forward loop what can we expect from a kitesurfer with the same experience?????

The way Gav and Cindy (to name only a few) are going and what I've seen from some of the new guys (and soon more girls) there will be some awesome stuff. Yes kitesurfing is one of those spectator sports with a wow factor but its also a sport where a beginner can wipe-out and gain a large audience!

So until you can prove you can do a forward loop on a windsurfer and ride away then you can be the judge.

Instead just get over it and have a little respect and make a little room for all who enjoy sports that don't pollute our play grounds!?

Sounds suspiciously like there's a subversive windwanker lurking in our midst. Let's set up a kangaroo court and lynch the fucker! Windsurfing's dead!

I went and saw 'step into liquid' a couple of days ago, and they were filming (maybe Liard Hamilton) tearing down the face of a hungry monster in Maui. He just carves out the bottom of the wave and the camera pans out and you see a windsurfer, who has cut the same line as the surfer down the wave, only a few feet behind him.......munchy munchy. It was amazing stuff - he seemed to be going faster than the surfer, sort of looked right given the cranking wind (although I suspect he may be waiting a while to do it again).

I've seen some kiteboarders draw lines on some pretty big waves, but this was a new one on me. Anyone who haul themselves out of bed on a sunny Maui morning and think - 'I'll have cuppa tea, and then I'll get into that Roaring Tower of Death jacking up in front of the peanut gallery down the road' - gets my vote!

windsurfuring is for loosers who actually dont want to get air or waves because the possibility of sailing conditions like maui in orewa is about 1000 /1. it is pitiful to watch them swimming or stalled every time im out there ripping and jumping. they judst get in our way its time they stepped aside

Re: kiteboarders used to be windsurfers 8 years, 3 months ago #1745
