Hi there,

I'm gonna be doing a bit of travelling for work over to Brisbane and Sydney soon and was thinking about taking my gear over to squeeze in a bit of kiting while I'm there.

Problem is I need to find a bag to take the gear over in. Ideally I'd like a bag to fit my board, a 12m kite, wetsuit and harness in. Anyone know of what would be best for this and where might sell one?

Also what would be the deal with flying over with the bag. Does it get whacked with extra baggage charges or are most airlines (AirNZ/Quantas) cool with it as sporting gear?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We travel every where with our gear.

Your 1 x board, a 12m kite, wetsuit and harness will be under the allowed luggage limit - 20Kg's.

Generally I travel with 1 x board, a 12m and 16M kite, wetsuit and harness which weighs dead on 20Kg.

Pack your wetsuit and harness around your Board tail/nose to protect from rough handlers.

An extra 10kg baggage allowance is given for sporting equipment free of charge on Air NZ, ask at the check in desk when you check in.

I recommend a basic coffin bag, you dont need wheels use the airport trolleys. The wheelie bags weigh an extra few Kg's. Which valuable if youre right on the limit of excess weight which cost a lot!

One of the best things about kiting is experiencing new waters and beaches.

Just check the airline website as sometimes they give extra allowances for particular sport gear.

For example I recently flew to Europe with Emirates and took all my gear (weighed about 26kg) and I told them it was scuba gear and never got charged for it (7 different flights). They have an extra allowance for scuba gear for some reason. You should be able to take it with no charges.
