Notice to all New Zealand Kiteboarders

The 2008 New Zealand Kiteboarding Nationals is to be run in Ruakaka, Northland from the 20th to 24th of March 2008 (Easter long weekend). Ruakaka is 1.5hrs N of Auckland and 35minutes SE of Whangarei

Proposed program as follows:
Thursday 20th - evening registration
Friday 21st to Monday 24th competition days
Monday 24th - evening prize giving

Major details should all be similar to previous Nationals - with freestyle being the main event, time and wind dependant we may run a best trick, hang time and/or downwind race. There will be a party night in there too - details once confirmed.

This is a low tide weekend; straight after the full moon so should produce good wind for the event.

We plan to run the event based around One Tree Point West, Marsden Bay and Mair Road - these three beaches combined allow good riding in any wind direction. There will be a website with all details.

Current contact for all enquiries is myself - Dave Kay, Event Manager, ph 021 654 149, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Su Kay has taken on the role of comp director, Justin Cookson is safety officer. We will need volunteers to assist for the weekend so if you are a kiter and not keen on competing come join in anyway.

Cheers

Dave Kay

We spoke to Tony at GAG and he has run short of time to arrange anything. He was more than happy for us to take the event off his hands this year.

Ruakaka it is - lots of work to do but we will have it all ready for Easter.

Hi Crew,

Only 4 weeks to go until the big event and while I write this Northland is getting HIT by a tropical storm.

We are please to announce that we have a naming sponsor, Northland Worx, a large contracting company up here have decided to help us out in a big way.

We have also been adding to the list of sponsors a big thank you too:

North Kiteboarding
Decay Kiteboards
Total Idea Company
Kiteworks
WSP
Ruakaka Kitesports
Main Road Take-Aways
Ruakaka Motors

There is still time to be involved grab the sponsorship form off the event site or call me on 021 654 149.

Riders we need your entry forms we would prefer them now rather than all in the last week. Remember entries close on the 7th of March:

NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

The tides and moon this weekend are the same as what we will be having for the event if you are able to make it up this way for the weekend a bit of training at Mair Rd would be a good idea.

The Saturday night party is 90% sorted we will announce the details soon. What will need for it is a couple of DJs Chris? Scotty? Anyone else? We will have the sound system but you will need to have your own decks. Please contact me if you can help out here.

Cheers

Yeah Al - no problem at all - there is even a freeride divison on the entry form so you can get all the goodies the rider get but don't have to run any heats.

Hi all,

Thanks to the guys at Total Idea Co. it is now easier to enter. Just go to www.kiteboarding.org.nz and open the entryform, fill out your details and hit submit by email and then you can transfer the entry fee into the Nationals account - details at bottom of form.

Entries close Friday, 7 March - no late entry accepted.

There is a Freeride division for those who aren't keen to compete. but want to join in the fun - Your entry will get you food for the four days at the beach, entry to the Saturday night party and a chance to win some of the lucky draw prizes on the Monday evening.

Check out the Competition section on the websites to see who's entering - I'll try to put up a new profile every day from now till Comp day.

Cheers

Su

Hi Guys,

As advised - entries to the event closed last Friday, we now have 82 riders confirmed as starters - a number we are very happy with. A full list of the field will go up on the comp website shortly.

However we have just had two confirmed riders advised that they will not be able to make it to the event next weekend. This means we have two starting spots available to someone who may have wanted to come the event but missed the cut off last week.

Contact me on 021 654 149 if you are keen on a starting position for the comp.

Remember the event is open to the public everyday we are running, and we are hoping that as many people as possible will make it up to watch the show.

Saturday night party - we have hired a Marquee which will be set up at the Marsden Cove marina. All riders have a ticket for themselves and their partner. Tickets will also be available for $20 for anyone else keen to join us.

Cheers,

Dave Kay

Hi Riders

Well only a few days to go now and the weather reports are starting to look all positive. SE winds everyday is the current call and lets hope it is all true.

We have 80 riders comfirmed for the event, a great field with riders coming from as far away as Dunedin to take part.

Just gone up onto the comp website is a full program of events along with a map of all the locations we will be using.

www.kiteboarding.org.nz/

Most important EVERYONE needs to be at the riders sign-in on Thursday night. This is at the Bach Bar, part of the Ruakaka Tavern complex. If for any reason you cannot make it to the rider sign-in you need to contact us now - we will arrange with you what needs to be done.

Best regards,

Dave and Su Kay
