Hey guys - what's the deal with tides and the estuary - I live pretty close and pop out on occasion to take some photos (www.nzsnaps.com) and often check the tides at ofu.co.nz/webgraph/index.php

Although it has a preset for New Brighton, the times just don't seem right for low tides - what do you guys use for reliable tide information on the estuary?

Tides on the estuary lag ~40 minutes behind New Brighton and Lyttelton, with kiting possible from ~3 hours before to ~4 hours after. The best time for kiting is on the falling tide as this smoothes out the chop.

I occasionally look at ofu.co.nz, but it isn't working just now so I can't check it. More usually I look at the Metservice marine forecast at www.metservice.co.nz/default/index.php?a...christchurchinshore, or NIWA at www.niwa.co.nz/services/free/tides.

I grabbed a few from Today (New Years Day) and there seemed to be a good bit of wind out there, as well as a lot of weed there....
