hey y'all
just arrived from scotland to dunedin, here for a year - looking for the best spots on south island for kite boarding - kiting with mountain board which no one seems to do out here..[am not rich enough to afford this kite surfing lark], and also to get out on the snow, any tips any one?

also due to extreme baggage weight facism from the uk i had to leave the trucks from my board at home. anybody out here deal in the MTB stuff? esp: for the new MTB matrix trucks [or an equivalent?]

also does anyone here deal with flexifoil - i can't find anyone, but considering i don't know any one....!!

sarah

Hi Sarah,

The guy you need to contact in the south island is Tim Stockman @ kitesports in Christchurch

www.kitesports.co.nz

He does a lot of kite mounatin boarding at Brighton beach, deals mostly in APT mountain boards + Peter Lynn and Slingshot kites (including there foils), he might be able to get FF kites tho, give him a call.

As for the kitesnowboarding, there are plenty of guys keen, but the right conditions are not common - but that could change with this big chill coming up the island!

Best bet for you is to hook up with some of the Dunedin kitesurf crew, I know those guys got some riding on snow last season.

Kiteworks in Auckland will be able to put you in touch with the Flexifoil importers who also hang out in Auckland. If Kiteworks weren't so cheap - they'd have a banner ad on this site and you probably would have found them by now.

Welcome to NZ Sarah! :!:

No snow where I am currently... but then again white powder's pretty rare in Auckland (like non existant)... interesting how close this cold icy blast will get us to snow.

Hey,

I've seen mountainboards in Dunedin. Try the cycle shop on the corner of Lower Stuart St and Cumberland St. They are a friendly enough bunch of people in there and can probably help you out.

Might see you on the snow.

Welcome to Dunedin!!!!

Have a look at the Dunedin Kiters website
It badly needs updating but have a look at http://kickass.at/dk

Things are a bit quiet round here at the moment, but there is talk of a mission to the snow. We did some snowkiting last year near town, the weather looks snowy enough now that we might get out there again

A few buggiers here in the winter

and about 6 water freaks, some with almost no money....

We went kitesurfing last week, it was not tropical

Place to go for mountain boarding is Kettle Park which is out by the beach.....

took a wander out to the beach yesterday. a three hour wander in fact...i think i got a little lost and it's a long way from the NE vallley, next time i'll be on the bus!
put up kite shot down the grass like a bat out of a burning belfry  it was not tropical either..
which beach do yous all go to?
is the kettle park place down by st kilda/st clair?
i saw the mountain boards, problem is i got a board - just looking for some super light trucks which no one wants to sell me seperate.. the old trucks weighed a million tons so go left back in scotland...
anyhow if this cold keeps up maybe i can construct some kind of ice board instead!

for general mucking around we go to kettle park which is the one above the dinosaur park (the one with the big loch ness monster type swings)
and the railway line close by

for big waves we go out at the beach at kettle park

for much else we go on the harbour

tomorrow we might be going kiteskiing coz there's 2 inches of snow on my lawn.........

i was going to queenstown to ski, but i don't think the roads will be open eh

what kind of kite are we looking out for???

i can see the beach and parks out my window

2 inches of snow..... heck is it pretty cold down there at the moment? I'm still shaking the flu so aren't even thinking of heading outside but up here in Auckland it's probably not that cold.... Enjoy your snowkiting 8)
