sskitehoneybunnys post was not offensive or disrespectful in anyway, it was not trying to promote or dis and products, sskitehoneybunny is just interested in the pier from an engineering persepctive. Nonetheless, although the post remains, her identity is exposed ;-(

sskitehoneybunny doesn't even know Lee, and always like to give people the benfit of the doubt. He could have asked to change the user name, and not taken liberty to do it.

No thank you very much. I like it just the way it is. Without some giant metal/concrete structure sticking out from the beach. Its not really going to help kitesurfers is it.

As for using surf at Orewa as a plus point for developing a reef/pier, never heard a surfer talking about how great a reef/pier for surfing would be, only businesses. Any surfer in their right mind would just drive to a spot where Great Barrier Island was not blocking out 95% of the waves. (as would kiters looking for waves)

For Surf Orewa is total crap except for the few Cyclone swells that hit each year and maybe a dozen more longboarding days a year.

Piers in the UK attract low lifes,look like crap, and councils do not want to spend money any more on their upkeep and they just become cess-pit eyesores that no one can afford to dismantle. The idea is soooo wrong.

The beach is beautiful as it is. NJOI the wind.

As for a pier .. my god, I have enough trouble avoiding seaweed and sticks (oh, and other kiters) at Orewa, I don't need a bloody great pier to keep away from too! Booooh to the pier!

yup a pier at Orewa... but if they are going to do it anyway then might as well get in there and make it useful or less detrimental for us. lets be positive! Think St Kilda, think Numea. A nice long L-shape creating flatter water and segegrating the various beach users could be alright!!

Thanks SCEI, Freeride is 2nd and 3rd Feb, so yup will hang onto the prizes till then.

Just to clarify...

With regards to your outpouring above, your login name was adjusted to suit the NZK membership rules. We feel it's better people know who posters are. And nothing you wrote in your post was edited or deleted.
It's just about keeping things open and positive and was not a personal attack on yourself.

The NZK web site is a little different to this one, the membership rules that users agree to before joining are just there to keep a bit of order as online forums can easily form a negative attitude.

If a first time rider reads a lot of community stuff online before joining the sport, I hope they find a lot of positive material on our site.

If you want to rant anonymously then there is always this site.
I think both have their place.

A PIER AT OREWA !! BRING IT ON ! Yes folks, I would be an avid supporter of a pier at Orewa for the following well articulated and researched reasons:

1) Orewa deserves it. You can take that anyway you like.
2) Gimme a pier to huck off anytime! The wharf at Ambury Park is a cool huck off for sure, but I have fantasised about having the kodak courage to go off Brighton Pier, this means I won't need to go to ChCh and get a 5/6 wetsuit.
3) Orewa descerves it. See above for justification.
