i think this is quite an accurate visual indication of windspeed releveant to kitesurfing...

0 > 8 knots Everyones checking the forecast or on the forum bitchin.

8 >10 knots Small children and lightweights are on the water just.

10 >12 Knots Most riders are on the beach hoping for a few more knots of wind. Pumping up their biggest kite. Doing the walk of shame.

12 >16 knots Beach is busy everyone on the water having a good time. Big kites ahoy.

16 > 20 Knots People are rigging smaller kites still busy, people are going big.

20> 25 Knots Most people are on their smallest kite, less busy people are going bigger. Less experienced come in, waters less busy.

25 > 30 Knots Everyone is on their smallest kite, Fewer riders out all going super big. Still having a good time.

30 > 35 Knots Handful of riders out, People watching from the beach to see who is going to get trashed. Hangtime Central.

35 > 45 Knots One or two riders out, that can afford or can get there hands on a small kite. Everyone on the beach to see them get worked over.

45+ knots Wind is gusty and unpredictable probably raining,possible thunder & lighting. No-one out on the water, everyone looking out the car window at the raging sea from the car park. Dog walker gets killed by flying bin.
