Sick of dragging gear down to the car parked on the street and back every day. Don't like leaving it in the car overnight on the street so much.. Call me paranoid..

So anybody got an opinion on roof boxes? Won't get all my gear in it but two boards and two kites and wetsuit and harness I guess would keep me happy for 90% of the afterwork sessions and chuck the super windy gear in when I know it's gonna be on...

Likely to get the whole box nicked just for the box?

I think you need to go down to the hardware store and buy a reel of barbed wire and wrap your car in that. Im sure that would deter any wanna be thieves. and cheaper than a roof box.

I thought that's why this sport requires the obligatory van, ute or station wagon. Prefereably of the all-wheel drive variety? :O)

Roof boxes are good though they're not hard to break into and expensive to replace if busted. Also watch out for salt water in the roof gutters... sure way to fail the next WOF. Lately they'll break into it just to have a look.

Get yourself a trolley bag and a wetbin. It's all part of the ritual. Along with tangled lines and busted pumps! :O)

hmmmm,

yeah I have got the stationwagon

quite a long path with steps down the hill to the car, needs to be one carry, the trolley bag is a good idea... I'll think about that one, trolley bag and backpack for the wetsuit, hmmmm thanks that might help...

Ah... well there's your problem! Sounds like you need more practical living arrangement. Something with an attached garage....

I have a bit of a haul from the garage too. No stairs though it can be a few trips seeing how it's Auckland and never truly one-kite weather. My hand-truck gets good use!

Hey Doofus, you have a S/W , you fly sleeping bags - I think I have an effortless solution!

Drop the rear seats down - arrange the sleeping bags on top of your harness/boards/helmet piled up to look like a person sleeping - make your car incredibly messy with signs of habitation - opened food tins/ drink bottles /toilet paper, even some glue bags & drug paraphenalia for good effect.... No-ones ever gonna mess with what looks like a sleeping drugged out homeless person. Your gear will be good to go, without all those domestic loading /unloading sessions that sound like they take more effort than walking back upwind after a 10km downwinder!

Tis many a true word spoken in jest

Following on from my thoughts on your loading/unloading problems; Why not just live in your car for real.... Your dinosaur 20m could be a great awning for indoor/outdoor living & you could choose your million dollar coa$tal beach front park-up to suit the wind.
