Greetings NZ kiters. I've recently landed in NZ from South Africa, living in Clarks beach.

I'm still waiting for my gear to arrive, but currently sussing out the local spots and keen for some more local info. Clarks beach definitely looks kiteable, but only seen one other kiter since I got here.

The spot I'm really interested in is Kariotahi beach, I've been and had a look, but wind was offshore that day, however it looked great with good surf, does anyone have anymore info on this spot?

Regards
MarkT

hahahahaha my name is also Mark T.

Anyway get onto nzkiteboarding.com and get in touch with a guy called Dave L. Kariotahi is his local spot.

Hey South Auckland is very underrated for kitesurfing but is great for flat water and steady winds in the Manukau Harbour. Never kited clarks beach but reckon it would ROCK in NW to NE at high tide. Manukau Harbour works in all directions. Many uncrowded spots there. So keen on returning to one of my favourite spots called Ihumateo Rd just north of the Airport. Works in any westerly direction (SW to NW etc) and at high tide it's flat and knee to waist deep for AGES. Stonefields to the north is similiar setup but works on any tide but low.

Real keen on sorting a session out at Kariotahi one of these days with you and Dave.

Also don't forget Port Waikato and Raglan. Not too far away and epic outgoing tide setups. Just make sure there is enough wind to ride powered and don't kite alone.

That would be me you saw at Clarks Beach, since I seem to be the only one who kites here. I'm lazy I suppose as I hardly ever kite anywhere else. It's too easy just walking across the road with my gear.
There are some good spots here on the Manukau, and a few that not many people know of, but Auckland has so many great beaches for kiting that places closer to the city are naturally more popular.
Cheers
Andy

Hey Andy i'm so in for a session at clarks beach. So next time its hoofin it from da north direction and it's my day off then i'll be in. Manukau Harbour has steady winds and flat water, can't wait to hook up another crew outing to Ihumateo Rd again. Been 2 years since i last kited there and it rocks when the WSW is OVA THE TOP everywhere else (ie 15 - 40 knots at PH).
